Clothing (jeans)
I am pledging a top fraternity in the SEC and have a few questions concerning which clothes will help me blend in the best. I am from Hawaii where we dress a bit different, but I have learned a few things already. Specifically, cargo shorts are frowned upon, being replaced by Polo brand kacki shorts. Brands such as abercrombie, hollister, american eagle, ed hardy, and tap out seem to be generally disliked. Polo, the north face, patagonia, and columbia are a few brands that I see alot. As it is getting to be winter now, I am looking to buy new jeans as I have already gained a bit of freshman weight. I currently have only American Eagle brand jeans which, for the record, I hate because they are tight and gay feeling. I was simply wondering what brand of jeans is worn most by southern fraternity men. I am not concerned that I won't be accepted, as I am already accepted well, I just feel that I will blend in better and be looked at more by girls (key word 'more') if I wear the same clothing style as my brothers. I think I have seen Levi Jeans a good bit, but more in the redneck crowd of the fraternity, while I seem to fit in better with the city crowd. I just don't pay that much attention to jeans myself and would just like the community's oppinion on which brand of jeans are the frattiest (but not too fratty of course I am not trying to be an overly fratty fratstar). Thanks for your feedback.

Why would you need jeans?
I don't know if I've worn jeans in 8 years. |

Dislike! |
We had some kids from Hawaii at my school and pledge my then-bf's fraternity, and in the three years I knew them, they never wore pants. Not during the November nor'easters, not even in the snow. They wore shorts.

OK golfshoes, observe what the brothers are wearing, take your cues from this. If you have your big brother already ask him about it, but not in a "Hey what type of jeans do people in this fraternity wear." but in a "I need to buy some new pants, do you know where I can get some around here?" way. General advice as someone who worked in retail (way) too long, don't buy jeans for the name brand, buy them for how they fit you. Some brands don't fit people the right way, find a brand and style at fits well and buy three. |
If you are that concerned about clothes, you probably aren't in a "top fraternity" in the SEC. Nor a bottom one.

Members of fraternities in the SEC don't wear jeans.
Sheesh, even I knew that. |
Wow I don't understand why I am being flamed so badly over a simple question. I am from Hawaii and most of my friends were natives who are ALOT different from your average fraternity member. And I don't usually look at anyone's ass to see what type of jeans they are wearing. I am simply home for the weekend and was gonna pick up a few clothes. And yea in the sec we usually wear khakis out, but jeans are worn to class and stuff in the winter. Obviously you have never been to the sec.

All I really wanna know is the name of a quality brand of jeans that are not American eagle, so if there is one sensible person who could help me out with this, it would belch appreciated. Thanks

I never wore jeans to class. I just didn't wear jeans, period. Khaki's wil be fine. Jeans might be a little bit warmer, but it doesn't really get cold (and if it does, you don't go to class). So, no point. |
Is there someone in the fraternity who you could shop with? It really helps to have a second opinion on this stuff, because you could go for the most popular brand around, but if they don't look right ON YOU, you will come off looking like a douche.
