Purdue: Four Fraternities on Probation (Alcohol)
The Journal and Courier reports that Purdue has placed four fraternities on probation for alcohol RM violations. See article and excerpts below:
http://www.jconline.com/article/2010...WS09/101029034 . . . According to a news release, campus fraternities Lambda Chi Alpha, Theta Tau, Phi Kappa Psi and Beta Theta Pi were placed on probationary status for serving alcohol to minors during separate functions at each house. That is a violation of university regulations and Interfraternity Council Risk Management policies. Lambda Chi Alpha's probation will last until Jan. 1. Beta Theta Pi will be on probation through March 11, while Phi Kappa Psi and Theta Tau's sanction will extend to May 1. Additionally, all but Lambda Chi Alpha were fined $500 for hard alcohol violations. "The length of the probations varied and the fines imposed because the violations were of different degrees," Pablo Malavenda, associate dean of students, said in a statement. "Our fraternities and sororities are made aware of the regulations, and if we find that they're not complying, we will take steps. These fraternities will have to show that they're meeting certain standards, and we'll help them along the way." In order to maintain university recognition, each of the fraternities will not be able to serve alcohol at any functions until specified dates. . . . |
