Mike & Molly
I remember when they announced this show but I have yet to watch it. I try not to adopt but so many sitcoms in my life.
I found this article very interesting. I can see how a show centered around a couple who met at Overeaters Anonymous and has frequent overweight jokes can receive criticism. That has received criticism and also the question of whether people are uncomfortable seeing overweight people make out on TV. This couple is hardly the first overweight couple to make out on TV, but okay. http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/398685...alth?gt1=43001 Has anyone seen this show? Is it funny? :) What do you think about this article? |
I liked the episodes I saw. I thought it was well written and I love the sassy partner Mike has.

That blog post was reprehensible.
That said, I've watched the show and I wasn't particularly comfortable with aaaaaaaaaaall the fat jokes. I mean, it's a lot. But I love Melissa McCarthy and I will watch it should the TV be set to that channel and it happens to come on. Also, I do like that both the leads are overweight, if one of them is going to be. Overweight men have hot skinny wives all the time on TV shows. |
There's a lot of Mike & Molly stuff on youtube and there are supposedly some full episodes online.
|
My fiance and I both watch it and enjoy it. I mean, it's not the funniest show on TV, but the humor is different from any other shows out there, which is refreshing.
|
We watch it. It's cute, we like it and hope it survives.

While we're discussing sitcoms with criticized themes, has anyone seen "Outsourced?"
No matter how much I want to give it a chance, I can't bring myself to watch it. I love "controversial" humor (hence, my love for Family Guy, The Office, Southpark, and The Boondocks) but the commercials for "Outsourced" just make me raise an eyebrow. |
I don't think a show built around the fact that Americans are losing their jobs because corporations are greedy a-holes could possibly be the least bit funny.
With every new show that comes out, Network is less and less just a movie. As for Mike and Molly, I agree that I'm sick of the overweight dumb guys having gorgeous and intelligent wives - I want to see that turned the other way around. I think the closest that got was Popular and Sara Rue (who of course is now a Jenny Craig shill). |
Outsources is also a funny one. You might be surprised!

Mike and Molly is cute, not my thing, but I've caught an episode or two.
Honestly they seemed like an incredibly realistic couple, not because of their size but because of their actions. |
Mike and Molly is a good show. It's way better than I expected.
|
I tried watching Outsource. I chuckled but ultimately couldn't get beyond the connotations (that I consider connotations).
I will save my workplace humor for The Office. :) |
I heart The Office. I wish it would go on forever. I will miss Michael after this season :( Not sure it will be the same.
|
I don't think it will be the same but I think they can keep it funny. It will never be as funny as the British (?) original.
