If I signed a bid card this fall, can I rush in the spring?

I rushed and signed a bid card this fall, but dropped out after a month. I am transferring to a school in my home state this spring- can I rush there or do I have to sit out a year? My new school only has rush in the spring.

First things first, did you initiate? If you are an initiated member, you are NOT eligible to rush again EVER.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but if you depledged prior to initiation, and you end up transferring, the one year rule is void.

So yes, as long as you are not an initiated member of that first sorority, you ARE eligible for spring rush at your new school.

However, if you (for whatever reason) don't transfer, you are bound to that group for a year.

I was never initiated. I hope that what you're saying is true about transferring. Where can I find this information?

AOII Angel 10-21-2010 12:28 AM

If you transferred, you are indeed free to rush. You are only bound for one year at your first school. Good luck at your new school.

IHeartUGA 10-21-2010 12:48 AM

Incorrect, my friends.

If you pledged at one school and transferred to another you can only join another sorority if the new campus doesn't have ta chapter of the same sorority at the new campus. If it does, you're bound to the 1-year rule. If it DOESN'T have a chapter of the same sorority (and you only pledged at the old school) you are free to rush so long as you notify the old sorority of your intentions OR you can go early alumnae per your organization's rules.

Trust me on this one. I know.

So she notifies the chapter at her new school that she dropped out? I hadn't heard that before. To the OP, check to see if your old chapter is at your new school...if it's not, you're golden. If it is, call the Greek Life office and inquire closer to the time of recruitment.

It doesn't matter. If she chooses to not affiliate with that chapter, she is ineligible to rush at that school.

KSUViolet06 10-21-2010 01:05 AM

I have never heard that before. Ever. And I think it's incorrect.

Do you have a link to where that info can be found in the Green Book?

No, you are incorrect. If she has pledged BUT NOT INITIATED, she is released from her pledgeship when she transfers. I think you are confused, as no pledge would ever go "early alumnae".

Also, a single woman is an alumna, FTR.

Per the Green Book, The Membership Recruitment Acceptance Binding Agreement (pg. MR-52) States:

4. Once I sign this Agreement, I am bound by the National Panhellenic Conference calendar year rule. This rule states that if I receive an invitation to membership from any group I have listed and I choose not to accept it, I am ineligible to be pledged to any other inter/national fraternity on this campus for one calendar year.

Page UA-3 under III. The Panhellenic Compact
6. A woman who has had her pledge broken by an NPC Fraternity, or who has broken her pledge to an NPC fraternity, may not be asked to join another NPC fraternity on the campus for one calendar year from the date she was originally pledged. However, she may be repledged by the same NPC fraternity chapter at any time within that calendar year.

7. When a woman who has been pledged but not yet initiated transfers to another campus, her pledge is broken, and she is eligible to pledge an NPC fraternity on that campus at the earliest opportunity.

Thank you Dee for clearing that up. I thought I had lost my marbles!

Ditto

Oh and casparks, AGDee's info is straight from NPC's Manual of Info and the excerpt can be found here: http://npcwomen.org/undergrads/standards-policies.aspx (under section III).

33girl 10-21-2010 12:04 PM

A woman's pledge is also broken if the chapter of the sorority she is pledging is closed before she initiates. She is free to receive a bid to another group on campus the next day, if she and another sorority desire.

This and transferring are the exceptions to the one-year rule. EVERYWHERE. This has been stated on here multiple times.
