hello everyone
Hi everyone
my name is naomi and i am so excited to start my research in preparation for pledging myself to a greek sisterhood. i did have a few questions, just so that I'm not going in, in the dark, and hopefully somebody could answer them for me, and one day i can answer somebody elses questions. |
ok my first question is, what is the significance of the number worn on the jackets of the sororities and fraternities.

That's the least of your worries.
Browse the forums to learn about the different organizations and councils. If you're familiar with line jackets, you won't be getting membership questions here. You'll need to talk to members of the organization you're interested in. |

You might try using the "search" function here and then come back with your questions. |

Some of you all can be so condescending in refusing to answer questions.
naomi19, the numbers on the back of the jackets and shirts are a tracking device that some sororities and fraternities use to track members. They also use cards with membership numbers and are moving toward tattoos behind members' ears or chips inside their shoulders. This is also how they know which members are hazing and should be placed on disciplinary action. Since you will become a member post-2010, you will likely have a chip on your shoulder. |

Naomi, all kidding aside, you have some serious research to do. If you are already in college, start by looking at your school's Greek website. If you are still in high school, you might check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nationa...llenic_Council for a little info on the traditionally black sororities, http://www.npcwomen.org/ for the traditionally white sororities, or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cultura...and_sororities for a mixed bag of other, including Asian, Hispanic, Gay & Lesbian, etc.
And then there's the service and professional fraternities... This is why people started the jokes right away. Your question was far and away too vague. The jackets, as far as I know, are just the NPHC sororities, but if you're asking about sororities, I'd think you mean the historically white sororities, because that's my reality. When you have a smidge more information, come back and then maybe we can help you, but remember, all of these are secret societies so there is a lot of stuff we can't/won't divulge or explain. |

That topic again?
NPCs are often called "historically white sororities" in the same manner that NPHC sororities are often called "historically Black sororities." Some people will like it and others will not. |
