spring vs fall soph recruitment

typically half of our sororities do spring recruitment, so i just want a little advice. would it would be better to go through informal (spring) recruitment as a freshman, or wait till fall as a sophomore, and chance getting dropped because of it?

Generally speaking, there's no harm in going through spring informal. If you don't find a sorority home, or are unsure, you can always wait until the fall.

It would be to your advantage to work on securing those additional recs.

Formal allows you to visit ALL of the sororities.

With informal, you are limited to the chapters that are participating.

It just depends on what YOU want to do.

If you are ok with only seeing some of the chapters (and would rather still be a freshman) then go with informal. You may end up really clicking with a chapter and getting a bid. I feel the need to point out that informal doesn't always = easier. At some SEC school chapters, you could end up competing with a lot of women for very few spots. It's worth a shot though.

If you feel that you need to see ALL chapters, go with formal recruitment. Just understand that you may face heavy cuts as a sophomore and will need to be well prepared with recs and such.
