A small recruitment story!

A small recruitment story, but it was special to me so I wanted to share! Thank you to the ladies on GC who encouraged me to get to know the girls in the groups and give it a shot! :)

I posted a question a while ago about age being a factor in the recruitment and a few individuals gave some really good advice! After much thinking I decided to go ahead with FFR!

I go to a HUGE commuter school with a very SMALL Greek Life! We have 2 GLO's: Phi Sigma Sigma and Alpha Chi Omega. There was a little over 60 girls who showed up, which is a really good turnout for my school. Which was cut pretty big for pref night!

I attended both parties on Thursday and Friday night! I loved the girls in both groups! Each group was so unique and interesting and very different! It was so much fun and I could see myself fitting in at either one.

We were told on Friday night that if we were not invited back for Preference then we would receive a phone call. I waited patiently and my heart dropped every time I heard the phone ring....

I finally fell asleep and figured I must not be getting a call and that I was invited back to Pref night! Now I was nervous as to which one or both had invited me back! I went on Sat night and found out I was invited back to both! I decided to really keep an open mind about the sororities and just enjoy the night!

Preference was very special and beautiful! Both parties were extremely different and I enjoyed both! At the end of the night I was so unsure of what to put as my 1st and 2nd choice. I eventually had to make a decision, but also decided that since I really liked both groups, that it would then have to be up to the girls in that group as to whether they wanted me or not....

BID DAY!!! was today, and again they said they would make calls on Sat night if we did not receive a bid. I was really nervous, but I never received a phone call! I woke up today really excited to see which house I would end up with.

I open my bid to see that I am now a member of....

.PHI SIGMA SIGMA!!!!! I love my new sisters! I cannot wait to get to know them and have fun and grow with them! I never would have thought that at 26 I would be finishing my degree, but also have an amazing sisterhood to be a part of!! I am so glad that I did not listen to the people who told me to not do it because of my age! I am very excited for this year and will proudly wear my letters!! :)

That's great! Please send us an update, maybe at about initiation time and let us know how the new member period has been as a more "mature" member. Are there other women outside of the traditional 18-20 age group? Did you end up sort of being the mom for your new member class? etc.

One thing that I noticed during recruitment was that there were a lot of more traditional age PNM's, but there was also quite a few non-traditionals. By the time pref night rolled around most of those girls had been cut! I asked the Rho Gamma's about age and they said the girls won't even look at that in their decision, so I felt a little more at ease, knowing that they were more interested in my character then my age. There was also a huge range of classes represented! More upperclassmen then I had expected!

There is actually another girl who is around the same age in ΦΣΣ who is a new member, but overall everyone seems really mature in this chapter and I know that despite there being an age difference there are still things I can learn from the younger girls!

I love, love, LOVE your attitude. Of course, there are things that you can learn from your younger sisters! It takes maturity to even see that :)

Congrats on a successful recruitment. But even more than that, congratulations on going back to complete your degree!

Doesn't Phi Sigma Sigma also allow graduate students to join? I feel like I remember hearing that, and I've always had it in my head that they are more flexible on a national level.

Yeah, Phi Sigma Sigma does allow for graduate students to join. I asked when I was at their recruitment parties :)
