initiation celebrations?

This month we are holding our first initiation celebration since founding our sorority at the beginning of the year. I'm a bit stuck for ideas on how to make it truly special. Any ideas? Thanks in advance x

Aren't you going to bother to do anything original?

If you're talking about a ceremony, that's all you. If you're talking about some sort of reception to celebrate the fact that you're initiated, have just that-a reception. That can be both economical and fun, but still formal if you'd like it to be.

A toast and speeches. A bonfire. Dinner at the same restaurant. A sleepover. A spa day. A sisterhood retreat.

Seriously, I know so few sorority chapters who celebrate in the same way. My own chapter did different things in different years. Xidelt has some great ideas. I'm sure that your national has some great ideas, too.

I will say that, if you have a house or chapter room or whatever, keeping it in-house would probably be more meaningful than going out somewhere.

If you read my post properly I did say I founded it at the beginning of the year

I think a sleepover with take-out food would be perfect. :)

Funny yet very fitting. :) They should find an awesome movie to watch.

@IrishLake - how's your sister doing?

to the OP: you realize that you are posting on an internet forum whose members belong to GLOs that have been established for somewhat longer than eight months? Watch where you're putting your feet, as my father told me over and over again.

So just because our sorority is fairly new I can't ask for ideas?

Correction: Your sorority IS new (not fairly) and will be new for the next 10/20 years (assuming it still exists after that time). And try coming up with your own ideas...will be much more special that way.

Ouch, why is everyone hating on the OP? I mean, where else will she go for ideas?

We traditionally do a sleepover and have random sisterhood events like skits and such. There are also some sorority specific things we do prior to initiations that you could look into for your specific sorority.

Another thing would be to have some of the members tell why they joined and what they've gotten out of it, share their fears for the sorority (since it's new), and have a good time.

Again, like someone already said, if you have a house, keep it there. If not, ask one of the sisters to lend her house for the weekend for initiations.

Good luck!
