Ideas of Informal Recruitment

Hi there,

I'm the recruitment chair of a sorority at a small midwestern school (approx 2k students), and we're the only sorority, although there are 2 fraternities. We just had a very successful recruitment (nearly doubled our numbers), but I'm having trouble with recruitment ideas that my chapter, and the girls at the school will enjoy. We're a very academically oriented chapter, and as luck would have it the recruitment is falling right at the end of our midterms. We also wont be handing out any more bids until the spring, but want to get our name more out on campus.

I've just taken the recruitment chair position and wasn't really given any ideas by my predecessors or advisor, but I would love to do some fall games, or something having to do with the fall that the girls of my chapter will enjoy, so that hopefully they'll get other girls enthused about it.

Any ideas?

Welcome to GC. Do a search for ideas...there are lots of threads about recruitment themes on GC. For specific recruitment themes regarding the fall, have you thought about Halloween themed parties?

1. Awareness. Wear letters and get your name out there. Be visible at campus events, at lunch in the cafeteria, and in class.

2. Make friends. It's a very natural way to expose girls to the sorority. They see you enjoying your membership, and might think, hey I want to learn more about that.

3. Co-sponsor activities (campus clean-up, blood drive, etc.) with other organizations to gain exposure to new populations.

4. Read all the other threads here. There are a million of them.

Check out Phired Up. Great ideas on their blog, website, etc.

If your goal isn't to be handing out bids right now anyway, just make sure your members are including prospective PNMs (would that be a PPNM?) to your events whenever possible. Then visibility and an atmosphere of fun welcoming girls should help pave the way for a successful spring recruitment.

Congratulations on your success so far, and don't be in too much of a hurry to expand... you want to make sure your existing members are happy and fully integrated before making another huge growth. That will make future recruitment easier AND more successful.

A philanthropy event where you invite non-Greeks to participate kills at least 2 birds with 1 stone.
