You Again
If you are looking for a fun movie, might I suggest you go see "You Again" - directed by Sig Ep Andy Fickman, with Gamma Phi Beta Kristin Chenoweth, Jamie Lee Curtis, Betty White, Sigourney Weaver - it's the little movie that (we hope) could. It's predicted to come in at #5 - I'd love to see it do better! (I know someone associated with the movie, so I'm biased :))

I have to admit, I want to see it. It looks funny and light, which is totally up my alley right now. Class is killing me and I need some escapism.
|
I totally wanna see it! Maybe tomorrow.
|
It's actually a "double Gamma Phi" movie! Cloris Leachman is in it as well, playing Helen. I can't wait to see it! LOL
|
Grab your sisters and GO!
|
I kind of what to see this as well. I also want to see Easy A. The bf wants to see Ben Affleck's new movie.

I am going tomorrow afternoon

This is gonna be a DVD buy. The humor was amazing and there was SUCH an all-star cast. Some familiar faces: Reginald VelJohnson (Carl Winslow from Family Matters), Patrick Duffy and Christine Lakin (Frank and Al from Step-by-Step), Victor Garber (Professor Callahan from Legally Blonde), Jenna Leigh Green (Libby from Sabrina, the Teenage Witch). I thought it was a great idea to fill the cast with actors recognizable to those who were in the age group of the main characters. Though it did make me feel a little old to realize that "way-back-when" movies are being made about the time I was in high school! Not cool! |
I saw it last night. My experience was completely different than christiangirl's. LOL. The movie is cute and entertaining. My friend and I chuckled a few times but the audience was yelling and cracking up. I expected more funny from this movie than it could deliver.
Great cast: You can't go wrong with Sigourney Weaver, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Victor Garber. As much as I have always loved Betty White (not like the youngins who only started knowing her last year), some of her jokes were a bit strained. I really like Kristen Bell and she's adorable. Odette Yustman is a good actress who reminded me of Mandy Moore at first. Yustman is shaped like a boy with a pretty face--much prettier when she is fully clothed--that distracted me because I didn't expect her to be so thin and shapeless. LOL. The writing was okay, predictable and lackluster altercations, and HORRIBLE dancing. |
Someone agrees with me:
http://movies.msn.com/movies/movie-c...ews/you-again/ It didn't make a lot of money. As is often the case, viewers' reviews are better than critics' reviews. |
It made over its projected 8 mil (totals won't be till Monday, but as of Sunday a.m.) - and I had a great time.
Sometimes critics need to get the stick out of their butts - the crowd I was with laughed and stayed through the final credits. |

The movie was cute and entertaining for what it was but it wasn't engaging and funny enough. I wish I had followed my instinct and seen "Wall Street." |
Well, since you aren't a critic I wasn't addressing you :). I was referring to those critics who critique every movie as though it must be a work of cinematic art. Some movies are art - some are just entertainment. The negative reviews I read by and large seem to be angry at "You Again" for not being anything other than what it purports to be - a fun movie. Or, as you put it - "cute and entertaining".
And subjective opinons can't be wrong - you didn't enjoy it; I did. We're both right. And my review in tomorrow's paper will be positive! |
:) Well, I posted that critic's review because I agree with it. The movie wasn't that funny and the actors did seem as though they were struggling to help a borderline crappy movie. I definitely wanted more than cute and entertaining.
:) This isn't about right or wrong. It's obvious that these are opinions. Now pardon me as I try to find that damn stick. |
It was cute, it definitely had some great moments. :)
I actually saw it with a bunch of my Sig Delt sisters, since one of our alumna worked with the director, so he paid for our tickets! Only in LA. :) |
