Recruitment Tips for Actives
 

Hi all!

Sorry if this is a repeat thread, I did a search earlier but I couldn't find a thread that was exactly what I was looking for. Formal Recruitment starts tomorrow(!!!) night and this will be my first and last formal recruitment as an active. I joined a colony last fall, so I never got to experience a formal recruitment before I joined. I was just curious if any of you had any tips and tricks you learned as an active re: recruitment, or things you wish more actives would consider when meeting pnms! We have 500ish girls registered as of last count, which is looking like it may result in our campus' quota being raised considerably...either way, I'm excited to get to meet so many girls.


I can't believe last year at this time I was debating about joining a sorority and now I'm about to go though FR to find our newest pearls. :)

Wow...that's 300 more than usual. I doubt if everyone will show; they usually don't. It will still increase quota considerably. Good for Towson!
I think you guys will do great in your first formal recruitment. The key is to have normal conversations, but your job is to get the PNM talking about herself. Ask open ended questions. If you have a hard time getting her to open up about her life, move on to pop culture topics like movies, music, clothes. Once she loosens up, you may be able to move back into more serious topics. Avoid the following questions, "So...how are you liking rush?", "So...what's your major?", "So....what chapters have you been to so far?" These are conversation killers. Otherwise, have a good time!

My advice: get every bit of sleep you can! Do NOT go out to the bars after recruitment is over for the night even if every other girl is doing it. Drink plenty of water. Be yourself. There is not a WAY sorority girls are, so trying to be that girl is a recipe for failure. Have fun. This really is the time you bond with your sisters more than at any other time of the year.
