An unsuccessful but still amazing recruitment!
Hi! I just went through recruitment and I unfortunately did not get to complete because I was cut halfway through. :( I go to a medium sized school in the south and am a junior this year! I had initially wanted to go through recruitment my freshman year but chickened out! I finally had the opportunity to go through recruitment this year and was very excited! I have read plenty of stories on this site and it was great that I would be experiencing it myself! I unfortunately only made it two days before I was cut completely (which I presume was because of my screwed up GPA)!
Here are the four sororities with pop star names: - Britney Spears - Lady Gaga - Katy Perry - Beyonce Day 1 - Open House Night All of the PNM's were assigned to groups and recruitment counselors! My school is slighty smaller than other schools in my state but there were a lot of girls that showed up! We got a schedule of where to go for the night: Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Britney Spears, and Katy Perry! Lady Gaga Overall, I really enjoyed this sorority. I love what they are based on! A lot of the girls are into the same things I am! The girl that I talked to was really friendly and is from the same hometown as me! She was also involved in alot of the same things in high school and is a junior also! I was introduced to so many girls and I have a really good feeling about this one! Beyonce They had a pretty cool theme for their party but I did not like th format of conversation. I would have loved to talk one-on-one with one of these girls! Not really feeling it so far. Britney Spears Their theme was so cute! It was very sweet! I loved the chant that they did! The first girl I talked to told me about the sorority and the events they do which included a party for new members! I got switched to another girl who was extremely outgoing! She had no idea what sororities were really like until she was in one! It was fun overall! Katy Perry They started out with a video that was kind of cool. They were all wearing bright colored dresses! I talked to tons of girls! I talked to each about 2-3 minutes and then got switched to another girl. They were pretty cool! I was so exhausted by the end of the night! We were there for 6 hours and had some very long breaks! It was tiring but fun! Cannot wait to see what's in store for the other days! I did not have to do any ranking tonight but I ranked them just for me: 1-Lady Gaga 2-Britney Spears 3-Beyonce 4-Katy Perry Day 2 - Philanthropy Night I got invited back to 3 of the 4 sororities. Unfortunately, there were cuts to be made and it was mostly based off of GPA. I got cut from Britney Spears but it's okay because I still had 3 others to go back to! Some girls only got one or two invites and some got all four! It really makes me nervous about tomorrow! I really hope I get back to all three! Katy Perry I really like these girls! They are the sweetest girls and so friendly! I talked to a couple of girls I talked to last night which was nice! We talked about their philanthropy and what they support. They provide financial help for their sisters and are involved with another organization which they put on events for! I just really clicked with these girls and was told that I stand out which is a great thing! I hope to get invited back to this one! Beyonce I liked the fact that they had one-on-one conversations unlike last night. I sort of liked the party but I didn't feel like I clicked with it. There are two girls (an alum and an active) who are both are/were my major which was cool but I didn't really connect with anything that they're about. Overall, it was nice but compared to the other two sororities, I liked this one the least. Lady Gaga I really love this sorority! I love everything they're about and I want to be a part of their sorority the most! We watched a video of their philanthropy and I started tearing up once it was over! The philanthropy that they have is the one that I would support the most out of the others! So, obviously, I am falling even more in love with this sorority. I love what they are based on plus I love their philanthropy! The girl I talked to was friendly and we made something that would be sold to provide money for their philanthropy. Some girls stopped by to say hi and one remembered me from the night before! I seriously did not want to leave the party! I want to be invited back so bad! I love this one the most! So tonight was the first night we could rank the sororities and I had no second thoughts at all! I ranked: 1-Lady Gaga 2-Katy Perry 3-Beyonce The next day, I got a call from my recruitment counselor telling me that I had not been invited back to any parties. :( I was devastated! I was basically sad the rest of the day! I realize that my GPA may be a very large part of why I wasn't invited back. I have a 2.53 GPA which is fairly low in my eyes! I screwed up a class my freshman year and I have been struggling to get my GPA up ever since! It was really sad that I wouldn't get the chance to experience Skit Night, Preference or even Bid Day! I have looked at pictures on Facebook of Bid Day and it's like I should be there! I'm sure I would be if it wasn't for my GPA! At least I now know which ones I liked the most! Lady Gaga and Katy Perry were my absolute favorites! Hopefully I'll get the chance to do informal spring recruitment and those two participate! If I ace all my classes, I could have a 3.0! That seems pretty unrealistic but I am going to try my hardest! This experience has made me realize that greek life is for me and I would love to be a part of a sorority! You can leave me any advice or comments below if you'd like! :) |

I also think that you are a junior didn't help. A second semester junior will have an even more difficult chance. I went to a school where junior commonly got bids but I think one you get into your second semester as a junior, that ship has sailed. You probably should've rushed your freshman or sophomore years instead of waiting though it sounds like your grades would've been an issue then, too. |

OP, concentrate on bringing your grades up for academic reasons, not just to join a sorority. As someone with extreme ADD and an aversion to studying, I can understand that for some people school can be a pain, but you need to buckle down and focus. Make it your job. Cut out social activities and give yourself two days a week at most to go out and play. And then, don't stay out all hours of the night. Spend the day on Saturday and Sunday studying, and use the night to relax if you'd like. Eliminate as many distractions as possible. If you do get the opportunity to go through spring recruitment, you'll boost your chances by blowing this semester away. It will show you've hit your stride and have learned how to manage your time. |

Nothing in recruitment is ever 100% impossible, but it is very highly unlikely. |
The first girl I talked to in recruitment told me she was a junior when she joined her sorority and I believe my school is one of those who don't care as much if I'm a junior or upperclassmen. If I had gone through my freshman year, I would've had a 3.75 GPA. This GPA I have now is just based off my freshman year since I was not at this school last year so that's the only GPA that counts now.

2008 - entered as a freshman 3.75 GPA from high school, did not go through recruitment.
2009 - sophomore - GPA unknown, did not go through recruitment. 2010 - junior - unsuccessful recruitment with a 2.5 college GPA attributed to a "screwed up class freshman year" and "struggling to get my GPA up ever since." That's what I make of it. And not sure where she attended school for any of the three years. |

The "This GPA I have now is just based off my freshman year since I was not at this school last year so that's the only GPA that counts now." threw me. I'm wondering if it's like this: Freshman year - University A Sophomore year - University B Junior - University A? |
Freshman year - University
Sophomore year - Year off? Junior year - back on campus? Would this be the same as being a sophomore if her GPA didn't count that year (or whatever). If she doesn't have a GPA from sophomore year, wouldn't she also not have credits? |

Yes you'd be a sophomore status if you didn't complete the year.
However if you transfer schools, a lot of times the school you transfer to does not accept the GPA from the school you transferred from. You just get credit/nocredit for the classes based on your new school's requirements. Same as taking a CC class over the summer and then taking the credit back to school with you. |
I fail to see how we should be amazed.
/just sayin' |
Now I'm really curious. Only because I'm wicked bored.

I think she was implying that although she was dropped by all the chapters, she had an amazing time anyway. My take for what it's worth. |
I dunno, there are some people who don't get bids but still really enjoyed recruitment because they got to meet some new people.
