San Bruno, CA Explosion and Fire
Just wanted to make sure all our Bay Area greekchat members and their families and friends are okay!

This is all that's been on Facebook today. I can smell smoke outside. I know there's no way it's coming all the way from San Bruno, but it's strange that today of all days, I smell smoke outside even though none is visible. It's like my heart goes out to them so much that I'm there in spirit (and smell).

At this time, it's 50% contained
|
At least four people are confirmed dead and they haven't even made it into the neighborhood yet :(
Plus, KTVU said that they have already found a few people looting -- what is wrong with people? The fire is still only 50% contained. The idea that a gas main could just explode and destroy 50 houses almost instantly in a huge fire ball is pretty scary. |
So, right now it's 75% contained. I'm watching the live press conference. 4 firefighter injuries (released from hospital), the gas lines have been turned off, 700 electric customers out of service, 300 gas customers are out of service so PG&E can check the lines. 4 people are confirmed dead, 38 homes destroyed, elementary and jr. high schools are closed. 9 search canines are deployed. 52 people injured, 7 critical.
There is no looting. |
Are the Bart trains still running through the area? It's right next to SFO. Highway 101 and SFO traffic must be a nightmare
I'm quite a distance away, but some of my girls are in the area |

If you go to google maps, type in Glenview Drive, San Bruno, Ca. The area bordered by Sneath, San Bruno Ave W, and Skyline. That's the affected area. live feed http://abclocal.go.com/kgo/story?sec...ula&id=7660103 |
Both BART and Caltrain are running.

My former roommate (and Kappa sister!) is from there but lives in another part of CA now. Her family is fine. Her fiance is also from there. The house that he USED to live in completely burned down. Crazy! Glad they're all okay though.
