A Recruitment Story :)
 

Hey GC, so this is my Recruitment Story :)

A bit of background- I'm an out-of-state student at a large state university, which might make recruitment go a lot less smoothly, but so far I am having a GREAT time!!!

There are 10 houses at my school, so for code names I'm naming them all after Glee characters. They are (in no particular order):

Rachel
Finn
Schue
Quinn
Puck
Mercedes
Sue
Kurt
Artie
Brittany

I'll post my notes and ranking in a sec :)

Okay, so these are my notes after the first round.

We first went to Finn, where the girls were really sweet. Very talkative, no awkward pauses in the conversation really and I loved their song.
Next came Puck, which quickly became a favorite for me. The ladies I talked to were all energetic and bubbly, but I could see they were being really genuine.
Afterwards was Mercedes. Conversation at this house felt very forced and unnatural, and I kept getting passed off in a very obvious way. They were nice enough, but they weren't the house for me.
Then we went to Sue, which had an awesome theme. The girls were really laid back and conversation was great. I felt really relaxed here, which I took as a good sign.
After a bit of a break, we headed over to Brittany, where the girls were really sweet but just a little bit awkward.
The next one we went to was Schue, which was awesome. We got on topics that were totally different than the standard fare here, and I just felt really glad to be there the entire time. Definitely a favorite.
Next we went to Kurt where the girls were SO nice to me. They were a bit soft-spoken maybe, but I didn't feel particularly awkward at any given point. At the end of the round, the girl I was talking to said "Hope to see you soon!" I think that might mean I'm getting an invite back here, but I'm certainly not positive.
Then came Quinn, which I honestly did not expect to like. However, I was quickly proven wrong by the AWESOME talks I had with the ladies in this house. They were so welcoming and genuine to me, which got me really excited about this house. For the second house in a row, my girls told me that they hoped to see me soon. I'm hoping this is a good sign!!!
Following that was Artie, which was kind of an uncomfortable experience for me. I was put in a pair even though there were more than enough girls to go around and just generally felt that the conversation was stilted. I talked to the girl I was paired with afterwards and neither of us thought this was a good round for either of us.
The last round of the night was at Rachel, which really re-energized me even though it was late late late at night. The girls I talked to were awesome and they were incredibly warm and welcoming. I was glad to end the night on a good note.

My 2 cents is you determined that a house wasn't for you based on awkward conversations on the first day of recruitment with 3 girls who could have exactly as much experience at this as you.

Try to keep an open mind. Even your bottom 3 could end up to be favorites over the next couple days.

And, DubaiSis, I'm trying not to write anyone off entirely yet, but I was just writing down my initial impression. If I do end up going back, then I will definitely give them my all.

I read on a post once to "treat the houses you get invited back to as the only houses on campus," so I'll be keeping this in mind throughout.

Things can change after the first round. People are nervous on both sides. I wouldn't discount a house just because the first time you meet them isn't magical.

THIS. Many times a house someone hated and wanted to cut after day 1 ends up being a total favorite after pref. Just remember that the ones that invited you back invited you for a reason and try to keep an open mind towards all the chapters!

Alright, so I'm back from my second round, which definitely did not go as I expected...

I got my schedule, and I was only invited back to Mercedes, Kurt and Brittany. I was a tad dismayed at first since I had been cut by most of my top, but then decided to keep my chin up because, as I've been reminded, it only takes one!

First up for me was Mercedes, which I liked quite a bit better than last time. Their skit was absolutely adorable, and I generally liked the girls I talked to. Again, nothing incredibly magical, but I'm definitely glad I was invited back.

Next came Brittany, which I ended up LOVING. The skit was pretty funny, but once I started talking to the girls I felt like I was with my crowd. I know I'm not supposed to have a favorite, but this was just a really fantastic round. I'm really glad I got invited back here, because I loved this house. (Cross your fingers that that doesn't jinx me!!!)

Last up was Kurt, which had a great skit and super sweet girls. I enjoyed getting to talk with these ladies, and I felt very at-ease at this house.

All in all, this was a good round. I liked all of the houses a lot!!!

Honestly, I'm a little thankful that I didn't have to put any in the bottom because I really enjoyed all of the sororities.

Round 3 is tomorrow, so here's hoping that none of these lovely ladies drop me!!! Expect another update after the round.

By the way, if you'd like to know the code I'm using, PM me after my bid day, which is Thursday!!!!! I've gotten a few requests for the code and I'd rather nobody knows until all is said and done.

I'm glad you kept an open mind after round one- many of the awkward moments and obvious bumps are due to first time jitters and getting into the swing of things. Recruitment is pretty darn tough on the chapters too :) it's great to see that overall this round went well and one of your former bottom 3 is now in your top. Things change quickly over that very short yet long week! Best of luck for round 3.

ETA: The "hope to see you next time" comments in round one is the semi-official way to end things. It can be considered an infraction to say "see you tomorrow" because it can potentially lead to false hopes. In part it's because one person really doesn't control the decisions, in part they don't want to pressure you too much (infraction), and in part because they don't want to intentionally lead you on. Like I said before, the chapters have a lot to think (and worry!) about.

Went to both, liked them both a lot. Could honestly see myself at either, but I think that currently Brittany has the edge by a little bit.

I was surprised by how many girls were dropping out...I saw at least 5 drop out after Round 1 and many many MANY more after Round 2.

I have a break tomorrow, but Wednesday is Pref Night, which I am beyond excited for!!!!! I might repost this day and go into further detail later when I haven't been studying for hours.

I couldn't be happier with my new house. I have felt so much love there in the past few hours it is just amazing. I know I made the right choice with KKG :)
