Just because our combat mission may be closed doesn't mean the 50,000 troops remaining in Iraq won't be attacked or killed in combat.

Right. The article says:

While the official U.S. combat mission is ending, roughly 50,000 American troops will remain in the country until the end of 2011. Their mission will be to will train, assist and advise the Iraqis.

As the U.S. military has been scaling down, the U.S. civilian presence has been ramping up.

Yea, it is still dangerous over there. The troops over there are still at risk. Just as there are U.S. troops on bases in other parts of the world, I'm sure we will always have troops stationed in Iraq.
