big/lil night
 

hey girls!
i was hoping to come up with some new ways of revealing the girls' bigs to them. we have done balloon popping and other similar ideas but hoping to find a new, more creative idea.
please share your ideas or PM me =)

Something I liked that we did but stopped was that the new member gets a beginning of a quote. All the actives are standing around in a circle when the new member comes in. She reads the quote. Then her big steps forward and reads the end.

What about making matching puzzle pieces out of posterboard? Give one to the big and one to the little. When each girl finds her matching puzzle piece, she knows who her big is!

this is adorable!!

We have a slumber party and when the new girls get there they have a basket waiting on them with pajamas and some other items in it. Then they change and have to follow a clue that was left in their basket to find their big waiting with matching pajamas on. It's so much fun.

We stand in a circle and say the littles name and they stand in the middle and the initiated members pass around a lit candle saying different things like "am i your big?" or "we are like two peas in a pod, am i your big?" and after it passes the littles big a few times, the next time it comes around, the big blows out the candle. its a lot of fun and keeps the littles wondering who their bigs are and keeps them thinking.

We took pieces of foam and cut them in half to form "puzzle pieces". Each half had clues relating to the corresponding sister. Since we were a colony, both sisters had to search for their big/little. When you finally found them, the pieces matched up perfectly! =]

All the Littles stand in a circle facing out with lit candles, while everyone else in the chapter stands in a circle on the outside. We divide ourselves into 3 groups (and spread out). We sing a song with 3 verses. Group #1 walks around the Littles during the 1st verse. Then they go back and Group #2 comes out during the 2nd verse. Same with the 3rd verse (Group #3 is all the Bigs!). At the end of the song, the Bigs run around the circle and blow out the candles their Littles are holding :)

When I was going through recruitment, and it was our big/lil reveal night, they had all the initiates except the NMOC leave the room after our programs meeting and had my class stay behind. We all got handed a car key (that wasn't the key to our Big's actual car, because we pretty much all knew what everyone drove), then we were blindfolded and were led by our NMOC in a weird conga line to one of the school's parking lots, where all of our bigs were sitting in different cars with blankets over them so we couldn't see who was where. When we took our blindfolds off, we had to run around to the cars, trying to find the car that matched our key, which was the car our big was sitting in :) All the bigs were honking their horns, and the rest of the sisters were cheering us on. It was so much fun!!
As for the next semester (I was only at school for a year, and am on a "sabbatical" of sorts at the moment), it was a small class and only the new bigs were at the reveal.

Our chapter changes Big Night for every class, seeing first how each new member class would be personified in the reveal - for instance, my (very sassy) class got wooden letters, but we were only handed the A and the D, and our Big was holding the matching X above her head, in the middle of a giant crowd of sisters so we couldn't see who it was, and we had to push our way through to her - it was awesome because of all the triumphant emotion when you finally got through to your Big!
The class after mine had a web of strings, the new member was given one end and her Big had the other, and she had to wind through the web - that one ended up being frustrating for the last two girls because all the others dropped their strings once they found their Bigs, so the girls had to untangle everyone else's strings before getting their own Bigs. Wouldn't recommend that one.
One we've used a number of times is the candlelight Big, where each girl receives a candle that's been decorated for her by her Big, has it lit for her, and then goes around the circle of sisters, holding the candle in front of each, and when she gets to her Big, the Big will blow out the candle. (some Bigs are mean and make the girl go around several times) I love this one, seeing as how we do a lot with candlelight already and I find it beautiful, also I got to "fake out" every single girl in this New Member class by leaning forward and almost blowing when they got to me, then turning my head to the side and letting them continue.

We do a similar thing to the web of strings, but we use yarn and go to an outdoor location with lots of trees. We then let the Bigs wrap the yarn all around the trees, crossing over other lines until they are done with their yarn. There is a nametag attached to one end of the yarn, and at the other we make them a basket with little AXD things. There's also a card inside the basket revealing who their new big is. Lots of fun!

For my class's reveal we were split into groups and some of us went to the house, and others went to older intiated sister's apartments. Our bigs left us gifts in each of the places, one of them being one single sock. We all met up in a building on campus and were instructed to put on the sock, all of our bigs were standing behind a curtain with only their sock sticking out from under it. We had to match the socks together then they pulled back the curtain and we found out who our match was!
