a couple more specific questions
- In reading through some of the sticky'd threads here, I noticed that religion fell under one of the DO NOT talk about categories. Since I will be attending a Catholic school in the fall, does the same rule still apply? If so, is it okay to still talk about mission trips or community service done through/with my church?
- My rush 'what to wear' guide says that I have to wear the designated rush t-shirt for Rotationals and Philanthropy night along with "your choice of comfortable, casual bottoms". What can I do to stand out in what (from what I can tell from the provided pictures) will be a sea of women in t-shirts, jeans and flip-flops? - In signing up for recruitment, they ask for a photo of yourself. Should I use my senior photo or one that is more casual? What do you think they'll be using these photos for? Thanks in advance! You're all so, so helpful. |
Just because you're at a Catholic school doesn't mean all the students are as dedicated to the Catholic mission as you may be.
If you have a skinny butt and look ok in print pants (like a Lily print) maybe that would work? I don't know if anyone will really actually be wearing jeans. Use a good, recent photo of you. Casual as opposed to formal is best. |
I wouldn't talk about religion itself, but it's ok to say you went on a mission trip or you volunteer with your church. You can leave out the religious part or not, but it's really common on SLU's campus and not particularly frowned upon or exalted. It'll be the activity rather than the religion that they'll want to talk about.
No one should be wearing jeans. Actives will probably wear capris, denim skirts, or black pants. A pattern would be a good way to stand out if you can pull it off, otherwise any similar bottom would work just fine. As for flipflops, I recommend against unless they're "nice" ones. You don't need to wear heals, but comfortable dress sandals would be a good call. Some of the actives may wear flipflops though so you could be ok, as I said, if they're "nice" ones. |

- I thought about those, but I'm kind of afraid that the shirt really won't go with anything. Here are the photos they included, so I'm assuming this is the style t-shirt that they usually distribute: Rotationals | Philanthropy. - I'll keep that in mind, thanks. Quote:
I don't own that many pairs of flip flops, so I would probably be wearing sandals or flats. I think it would really depend on the bottoms. |

They're just going to be T-shirts, and they might not even fit wonderfully. I know, I'm sorry, it's one of those things Panhel does :p Know that the actives feel your pain. The SLU shirts aren't the ones handed out and I suspect the GREEK shirts are ones they used last year for pre-recruitment PR. Which means entirely new shirts this year in panhel only knows what colors. |
So many threads on what to wear!

I really like both pairs of pants that you showed us. I think either would be appropriate and capris are cute. Just make sure you look TNT in them. You want to wear something that fits your body type. If you go the capri route have a cute pair of shoes. I think the photo is SO important. As being someone that volunteers on the other side (maybe the dark side, ha!) We use the photos to recognize you when you walk through the door. I can tell you we have had some interesting photos come through. The ones that stand out to me are the ones that have been photo shopped to within an inch of their life and the girl that walks through the door is unrecognizable. I think a senior picture is fine or a casual one that is flattering. Don't send one in with a boy, an animal or a goofy or compromising situation- yes we get those too! I sometimes wonder what these girls are thinking. We also don't need an 8x10 glossy small ones are fine. One more thing, if they are only asking for 1 picture they are probably scanning them or copying them. Make sure they reproduce well. Good luck to you! Have fun and let us know how it goes. |
Okay, I'm glad those capris work. My mother always says 'it's better to be overdressed than underdressed', but I always feel very uncomfortable when I'm overdressed. I think/hope that those keep me in the comfortable zone of being dressed appropriately for the events.
I completed the form, and based on the advice from you and the other people who've posted (thank you so much, Drolefile and 33girl!), I sent one of the more casual portraits from my senior photo sitting. Thanks! |

Whenever I see silver clothing I just think of those tanning plate/sun reflectors that people put in their cars :P I'll make sure to keep my offensive metallics to a dull roar

Haha, gotcha. My friend just pointed out to me that a girl we went to HS rushed at the same school last year, so I may ask her what she wore for those rounds. I think our taste is similar. Or, at least, it was in HS :P

^^ She may not be able to talk to you right now. Silence hasn't officially started but communication is still restricted. Just don't post on her facebook or something ;)
