usc rush attire
I will be rushing at USC (southern california) this fall, and I was wondering what kind of clothes would be appropriate for the different days (open house days, house tours, slide shows, and pref). They have pictures on the website that I've seen, but I'd like some more opinions on what would be too formal/informal for the various days.
The only reason I ask about USC specifically is because most of the threads on here are about Southern rush, and I'm sure the rules are at least somewhat different (i.e. i know California doesn't recognize the whole don't wear white after labor day thing). So, any rules/ideas you all can think of? And if you're feeling really generous, maybe examples of what you'd wear if you rushed there? Thanks :) |
Read my daughter's the Reluctant PNM. She rushed at USC last year. I gave some information about rules/clothes. PM me for specifics. I will be happy to help. SC has a very competitive recruitment.

I just took a look at the pictures on facebook. I don't think there are any "rules" per say, but I think there are some common sense type things. For instance, I would not dress like I was going to a bar or out dancing. I would make sure that my girls were not bubbling out over my top. I would not wear any thing super tight or see through. Make sure you are well groomed. Think meeting your boyfriends parents for the first time.
For day one your convo day I would pick something that is very comfortable to wear. It could be hot and with 100+ women in a house it gets hot. I would go for natural fabrics and very comfortable shoes. I think a little skirt and tee shirt would be appropriate or a very casual sun dress. I would also arm my self with some body spray and perhaps deodorant. Day 2 looks a little more dressy. This will still be a long day especially if you attend all 6 houses. Not one of the girls in the pictures are wearing pants, shorts or capris so I would stay away from them. There is a thread on here that shows a really good picture of day 2 attire. Even though it is for an SEC school I think it is applicable. I can not see a big difference in Day 3 other then most of the girls have a wedges on their feet instead of flats. You might want to dress up your outfit with some accessories. I think the pics for preference are interesting, but then I read they are in the morning. I think the advice they give for an afternoon wedding is pretty appropriate. It is definitely not cocktail attire like at so many other universities. I would PM ellebud. Her daughter just went through last fall and I'm sure things haven't changed drastically in a year. She could probably provide some good ideas on what to wear. Good luck to you. |
dressier rather than tshirt and skirt casual....

Do you see the looks on the USC Panhellenic? You know the kind of frumpy mixed print mess? :) Don't do that. Cute sundresses work. Pref is morning so yes, unlike many places where evening ish is good, SC not. Think a NICE brunch, wedding shower, with heels.

I'm glad this thread was bumped haha quick question: I bought an adorable cottony sundress with a flower print on it. Is flower print a no?
To kind of explain it further, it reminds me of like a cute little barbie dress. I'm just worried it's not "trendy" enough for California? |
You say it is adorable. It makes you feel pretty. It flatters you. It speaks to who you are as a person.
Wear it. |
