when do you know if you've been cut?

this might be a silly question but how do you know if you've been cut by sororities during recruitment? Do they tell you after each day or you'd find out at the very end of the recruitment (on bid day?). what happens if the sorority you chose doesn't offer you a bid but another sorority that you didn't state as your choice gives u a bid, can u still accept the bid from this sorority?

At the end of each round, both the rushees and the sororities are making lists of which sorority they want to return to/who they want to ask back. You usually find out the next day who has asked you back to the next round of parties.

Yes.

At the beginning of each day you find out which chapters you're visiting and in what order. On the first day you'll meet all of them. At the end of the first day you will (usually) rank the chapters by your order of preference.

Then based on the chapters and your own input you get your schedule from the next day. If a chapter drops you, you get matched with the next one on your ranked list and so on until your schedule is full. Therefore unless you absolutely would not be in a chapter, it's in your best interest to rank all chapters.

After pref, before bid day, your process is the same, you put down your top chapters and agree to accept a bid from any of them. Fancy bid matching things happen. If you don't get a bid from your top choice, you can still receive a bid from your other choices.

There are also Snap Bids which happen when you get a bid from a chapter you didn't go back to because your schedule was full. (For example, they were fourth on your list and you went back to your top three, but didn't get bids from any of them, you can get a bid from your fourth but you aren't guaranteed.)

so if your name isn't on the lists of any sororities invitation list after end of the day..that just means you're cut? and from there it just means you're outta the system, like game over? and also, at recruitment, are all the girls from each sorority going to be there?

At the end of formal recruitment, you are only offered one bid.

You don't get multiple bids.

While this differs from school to school, here are the basics:

-After each party, you will be asked to list, in order, which sororities that you liked.
-At the same time, the sororities will be listing, in order, which PNMs they felt were good matches for them.
-Before the next round of parties, you will be given a list of invitations, and will attend the parties to which you're invited, in order that you've listed them.
-Repeat.

So, if your list is, in order:
1. ABC
2. DEF
3. GHI
4. JKL
5. MNO
6. PQR
7. STU
8. VW
9. XYZ

Each sorority has a list of PNMs, in order. Let's say this is ABC's.

1. Amy
2. Bethany
3. Cammy
4. Dixie
5. Emily
6. Fiona
7. Gretchen
8. Hannah
9. Iris
10. Kate
11. You etc.

But their list may look like

1. Kate
2. Cammy
3. Fiona
4. Gretchen
5. Dixie
6. Iris
7. You
8. Hannah
9. Amy
10. Bethany
11. Emily

If ABC can only invite five people, then you will not get an invitation from them. If ABC can invite 10 people, everyone but poor Emily will be invited back.

Then, realize that each sorority will also have a list, and seldom will the lists be the same (unless there's a Miss Teen America with a 4.8 GPA, great rep, and a rich family!). What ABC is looking for may not be what VW is looking for in a PNM.

Hope that helps.

If at some point you are not invited back to ANY chapters (meaning you were cut by everyone), then you will be notified by your recruitment counselor.

Generally speaking, sorority members are required to be present for formal recruitment, so most of the girls from every chapter will be there. Everyone might not be talking to PNMs (some prefer to help out behind the scenes), but everyone has to be there doing something.

You won't see their invite list, just which parties you're invited back to.

And most if not all sisters will be there and visible, it's rare that people are allowed to miss recruitment.

ah I see, thank you all for the comments! does coming from a rich family really helps your chances? how do they know how wealthy you are anyway? by what you wear? so if you don't wear anything fancy (doesn't look like you're too wealthy) this decreases your chances? realistically speaking?

Uh.

Wow.

Unless you're at a school with a really big social class distinction, it's probably not an issue. Most chapters would only care about your ability to pay your dues, not what your daddy does.

Look nice. Dress appropriately and be polished. Think of it this way, if a group is going to look down on you for not wearing designer clothes or shoes, and you don't or (can't afford to) wear them, you wouldn't be happy there anyway. I don't know your school so I can't speak to the culture there.

Odds are that every single sorority member isn't wealthy. Nor is every other PNM. I really wouldn't worry about it.

OMGWTFBBQ.

Get off GC, get off the computer, start networking and GET YOUR RECS.

ah thank you! I was wondernig that because someone said something earlier about being rich might make a difference. but you guys totally have a point. I would not want to be in a sorority if they are going to look at me on how much my family makes..that is horrible. Thanks again for the comments!

That can happen. It depends on where you're going to school. But I'm too lazy to go back and check your posts, so .... do what 33girl said.
