How competitive is recruitment in small schools?
The school I will be attending this fall has about 1,000 freshman. It's a pretty small school so there are only 2 national sororitites. (there are way more local ones, but I wanna join a national one). I just wanna know if it will be really competitive because there are only two? They do formal recruitment and everything too. I mean I'm sure not every girl is gonna rush, but I really don't wanna get cut! lol

First off, it all depends if the local sororities and national sororities rush together. If they do and they follow a NPC-style rush, you can't say "I only want to look at the national groups." You will need to visit them all and there is a chance the ones you like might not like you. Or that you'll look at the national groups and not like the women in them at all. It's great that you want the benefits of a national but if you don't fit in the chapter at your college your undergraduate years will not be very fun.
Not all 1000 freshmen are going to rush. I'd say about 500 of them are disqualified due to the fact that they have penises. Without knowing what school it is, it's impossible to say that just because the school is small it isn't competitive - some schools have less than 4000 people and still have very cutthroat rushes. |
i forgot to mention that the local sororities do not do formal recruitment with the national ones.
That's why I was just wondering if it's alot harder to get a bid because there are only 2 sororities. Kinda a broad question. I apologize lol. I'm just curious. |
The number of sororities really doesn't tell you how tough it is to get a bid - Ole Miss only has 9, far fewer than many schools, and they have one of the toughest rushes in the country.
Your best bet would probably be to do a search and see if there's anyone from your school posting on GC...they could tell you more. |
It really depends on the school. I go to a school with 4 NPC sororities and 3 of the multicultural sororities, but our school has both informal(fall) and formal(spring) recruitment. Greek life at my school is pretty small with 11% of students being Greek and it doesn't seem that difficult to get in, keep in mind, your year, your GPA, your extracurriculars. Of course, keep your grades up for recruitment(our GPA is a 2.50 to rush) and join some clubs. Joining the clubs you'll meet a lot of people and possibly some sisters.
GOOD LUCK! |

competitive recruitments depend on the school itself, not the size of the school.
