Help for Recs

Im rushing at UGA and Ive heard that recs are really important. I already contacted the Atlanta panhellenic alumnae and i got some emails from people saying they would write recs but i was wondering if I am guaranteed recs for the rest of the sororities too. Can anyone help me out?
Thank you! :)

The point of writing a rec is promoting someone you know/like. If they don't know you, don't ask them for a rec. And, yes, rush at Georgia is VERY competitive.

I don't understand what you mean by "guaranteed recs." I mean, recs don't just fall from the sky lol. You have to find someone to write you one for each chapter.

Unless you get an email from an individual alumna of EACH sorority at UGA, no, you don't know for sure if you have recs for those groups. The alum Panhel just operates as a sort of go-between - Panhel as a unit will not write recs for you.

When I pick up the forms from our Panhellenic, I don't contact the PNM when I write a rec. In fact, our NPC group cautions NOT to contact the PNM. So she won't know I'm writing a rec unless I tell her. And I don't know a lot of the young ladies for whom I write recs. I check them out via mutual acquaintances - my own network of school, church, Junior League etc. friends.

I edited my post to reflect that. Just wanted to clear up her main confusion which seemed to be that Panhellenic does not function as one big rec-writing unit.

This advice is fine in general but please refrain from giving recruitment advice to other potential new members until after you recieve a bid. At best it's accurate but doesn't carry the weight of being an active member or alumna, at worst it amounts to online tent talk or completely innacurate advice that could affect someone else's recruitment.
