I don't see how anyone could be recognized from those pictures. You can't see his face at all.

How awful is that! I hope they find that guy! Good thing FIJI had cameras. I know a few frat houses here have cameras and maybe 1 or 2 sorority houses.

Generally no one lives in the houses during the summer 'cept for Sigma Nu where the Conference Assistants stay.

And yes, I'm surprised he hasn't been caught yet.

If (God forbid) people were living there at the time, that f---er could have killed someone. What would possess someone to do something so dangerous? Sour grapes over going bidless? Maybe someone stole his girlfriend?

Do people who commit these crimes realize that what they might intend to be "just" vandalism might end up as homicide? I seriously don't get it.

It will be interesting to find out his motive, or if he's a serial arsonist. I usually hear about this stuff in NWA from my FIL.

EW, where is the Fiji House? Anywhere near Pomfret?

gee_ess 07-15-2010 04:50 PM

^^Behind the SAE house

carnation 07-15-2010 04:53 PM

Was it the old AKL house or is it a new one? I'm trying to get oriented here.gee_ess, were they in Carnall when you were there?

gee_ess 07-15-2010 05:16 PM

No, it is the old Delta Upsilon house, I believe. I think it was DU when I was there in the early 80's. The old AKL house is long gone. When I was on campus, the FIJI's were on a side street in a stone house. I truly do not remember exactly where it was - maybe back behind the DG house or thereabouts?? But it was not on Stadium, that much I am relatively sure of. I've lost a lot of braincells since then!!

Carnall hall was an old, dilapidated building in the early 80's. If you rent The Blue and The Grey, there were scenes in the movie filmed at Carnall Hall. A bunch of us(KKG's) watched the filming and brought one of the lesser known (probably an extra!) home for dinner one night. It was probably his biggest thrill to have at least 75 college girls fawning all over him!

Right in front of Pomfret, to the back and left of the SAE house.

The Fiji's use to be near Futrall I think at one time, where they're building a parking garage now.

carnation 07-15-2010 05:44 PM

Oh no, no more Futrall or Holcomb? And they knocked down the 4-H House and I think if I went back, I wouldn't be able to find anything except Old Main.:( I'm still upset that they knocked down my grandmother's house.

Maybe Fijis were in the 4-H House for awhile, that seems to ring a bell.

No no no, they were next to Futrall. Futrall is still there (it's where I stayed in undergrad), but there use to be a few houses next to it until they tore those down to make a gravel parking lot for Futrall/Holcomb. Then, this last year they started building a several story parking garage over that old lot.

I kind of thought that the 4-H house was Carnall Hall, but I don't know why.

carnation 07-15-2010 05:59 PM

No, 4-H was this gorgeous old rock house--looked kind of like the ADPi House--right behind the DG House, I believe. Until about the 80s, girls who lived there would serve as the staff there and pay off their tuition that way. It really helped a lot of women and there was huge competition to get in. Most of them were Home Ec majors.

Several years ago, the U said they were going to tear it down and there was a huge outcry. They backed off and then one summer day when almost everyone was gone, they came out with bulldozers and ripped it down as quickly as possible. They lost a *lot* of College of Agriculture alum support over that one.

Carnall, of course, is the old dorm over by Old Main that's now some kind of campus B&B. It was a dorm until maybe the sixties and my grandmother was the housemother for years before she got married!

An expensive B&B too. (at least by Arkansas standards)

And rumors are flying that the person who did this created a bomb and then shot the bomb with a shotgun. I'm not sure how terribly plausible that is, but that's the current rumor.
