joining NPC

I was browsing through the up & coming national GLO forum and I thought of some questions.

1. Can and will NPC allow anymore chapters to join NPC?
2. If they do, how many chapters does the sorority need to have nationally to join?
3. What are the benefits/disadvantages of them joining NPC?
4. Do the chapters that are national generally want to join NPC or do they want to stay non-NPC?

It seems that some of these chapters that are considered national but not NPC are governed by NPC at their respective schools. An example would be Theta Nu Xi, on the U of A website they are listed under Panhellenic chapters at the school.

Thanks

Chapters don't join NPC - organizations with chapters join.

It's pretty obvious by the context what she means for heaven's sake.

ASU, the NPHC's bylaws are public and the membership criteria is as well, so I was somewhat surprised when I didn't find the same information on the NPC website. Maybe I wasn't looking hard enough.

Aren't all of the unanimous agreements for the NPC in the "green book"? I think you have to purchase that. I don't think that info is on the website. It's quite a bit of information.

Does the NPC have unanimous agreements instead of bylaws?

I distinctly remember reading on here that organizations petitioning to join the NPC have to have at least thirteen collegiate chapters, the youngest of which must be a certain number of years old.

Since you mentioned us... It is extremely unlikely that Theta Nu Xi would join the NPC. While we're a social sorority, we do not share many characteristics with NPC sororities. Our chapters are generally part of Multicultural Greek Councils and are only ever associate members of local Panhellenic Councils on a temporary basis in order to be recognized by Greek Life.

We do have a lot of love for the NPC! If not for the work (and regulations) of its member organizations, it's unlikely that Theta Nu Xi would have had an opportunity to establish chapters at schools where no MGC exists.

No they have bylaws, I don't have time this morning, but I found this in an old GC post:
Quote:

To apply for Associate Membership the organizations must have:
- been in existence in its national character for at least 9 years;
- a minimum of 12 well-established chapters;
- every chapter established in accredited senior colleges/ universities that are authorized to confer a Bachelor's degree;
- the endorsement of the administrative authorities on all those campuses where its chapters are established;
- one representative and one alternate representative available to serve on the Board of Directors who are members or past members of its national council;

To apply for Associate Membership the organization must not:
- have as a member any woman who holds membership in, has resigned from, or been expelled from any other NPC group. If a woman holds a membership in an NPC group, the member will be required to select one group or her membership will be terminated in both NPC and Associate Member applicant group.
- have as a member any woman who has broken her pledge with, or has had her pledge broken by another NPC group on the same campus until after the expiration of 1 calendar year from the date she was originally pledged;

To apply for Active Membership the Associate Member must have:
- been an Associate Member for at least 4 years;
- been established in its national character for at least 13 years;
- all its chapters established in accredited senior colleges and universities which are authorized to confer a Bachelor's degree;
- a minimum of 14 chapters, and the 14th chapter must be at least 2 years old;
- maintain no more than 1 chapter on any one college/university campus;
- policies, practices, and procedures that conform to all the Unanimous Agreements, as described in Article VII of the Bylaws.
The UAs are part OF the bylaws.

I only know what you say, not what you mean to say.

If you only know what one says, then you're not a very astute bird.

And since you're not, when I say "bird" I don't mean a literal bird, because clearly birds can't type and join sororities.

See what I did there?

Aww...when I saw your name there, I was hoping for a Blanche side-eye. And, before you say it, there's no such thing as overuse of the side-eye by you (and only you).
