Am I wasting my time?
I'll be a freshman at LSU... However, I am from FL and am not a legacy, and have very few recs. I had good grades (3.6 unweighted), went to an intense private school, an athelte (3 sport + captain+ MVP), and I'm cute! But this is just getting me all worried. Am I wasting my time by rushing?

Take deep breaths, get some recs, make sure you have cute things to wear for rush that will help you feel confident, and enjoy yourself. |
Recs are very very important there, huh?
|
Please see the sticky at the top of the page. You can contact your local Alumni Panhel group for more recs.

We can't say for sure whether you'll end up getting a bid or not.
You might. You might not. Who knows? All you can do is try. I can say this much, you need recs. Also, you might be pretty, a 3 sport MVP and captain, from private school with good grades. That's great, but at LSU, you can pretty much guarantee that there will be MANY other girls who are multi-sport MVPs, pretty, with good grades from private school. Don't expect that to carry you. |
LSU is a very competitive recruitment, but you have a very good chance of getting a bid there IF you keep an open mind and your options open. The majority of women who go through recruitment end up with a bid at the end. The majority of women who go through recruitment are also cut from at least one chapter during the process, so don't get your feelings hurt when it happens. There are women from out of state who join chapters at LSU, so you don't have to be from Louisiana to get a bid (though for some chapters it is more important.)
|
and i would hasten to add that most women who have a successful recruitment(receive a bid) at LSU have secured recommendations to all the chapters there.
|
Yes, yes, yes to recs for all chapters...two, if you can. Then clothes, then chill. It will be fun if you decide to make it that way.

You definitely won't get a bid ....... if you don't go through recruitment.
|
Do it! You'll have fun and get to meet a ton of new women in the process, and who's to say you don't get the house you want? What I would suggest you doing, is contacting your local area Panhellenic organization. (I know Tampa, Orlando and Miami all have one. There might be more, I just don't know where you are) They have summer social events where you can come and meet alumni and they can help you out with your recommendations. Also, you can always call the LSU Greek Life office and they can help you out too.
Lastly, be yourself. Don't worry about going into it "without this, or with that." Trust me, all the girls going through are worried about something, so just have fun! |

Am I correct, then, in assuming that women who don't manage to secure recommendations to ALL chapters have less of a chance than those who secure one to each chapter (even though they have recommendations to at least half of the chapters)? |

Not getting recs doesn't mean you won't get a bid, (nor does getting recs guarantee you a bid) but it's all about giving yourself the best chance with every chapter that you can. |

Please, PNMs, kindly use the search function. Read the stickied threads in the Recruitment forum. We are not meanies. We want you to succeed, or maximize your opportunities and chances for success during recruitment. That's why there is so much information already published/written. Virtually everything you need to know is in the stickied threads or can be learned through a search. Honest. We aren't hiding any information. Regarding chances and recommendations: there are multiple variables that enter into each individual PNM's recruitment experience. There's no hard and fast rule. I am not at liberty to discuss membership selection, and I daresay no other GLO members are going to do so. Assumptions can be dangerous. However, should you be entering recruitment at a previously-identified "recommendations definitely needed" campus, then do the legwork and obtain as many recommendations as you possibly can.
