Columbia Sororities

Hi, I'm an incoming transfer student at Columbia University and I wanted to see if anyone had additional information about the greek life. I read on their website that incoming freshman can't rush because you have to have completed at least one semester of coursework. Does that semester have to be completed at Columbia?

Also, I've only seen information about Spring recruitment. Does anyone know if there is fall recruitment? and if so, when does it take place?

Any information you could give me would be greatly appreciated!

This would be a great question for your Office of Greek Life.

Generally speaking, requiring transfers/incoming students to wait has to do with making sure they have an established GPA at THAT university before recruitment.

I would def double check with the appropriate people in charge about spring recruitment.

If memory serves, Columbia has deferred recruitment, meaning formal recruitment is in January. Some groups maybe COBing in fall but you'd have to check with the Greek Life office for details.

Please reach out to the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs, since it does not appear that the site gets updated too regularly. There are a ton of extremely helpful people within that office that can give you the answers you need.

Good luck! I went to Columbia for my Master's and helped out with the chapter of my sorority.

I have contacted them but no response yet. I just want to know if anyone knows specifics about rushing or sorority life at Columbia since their website doesn't offer much information. Do they accept many juniors or is it only freshmen & sophomores? Please provide any information!

That's the thing: Columbia is pretty much unrepresented here on GC, so it's unlikely that any of us can give you the information you want--hence the telling you to go to FSA. I'm probably the most informed about what goes on at Columbia, and I left grad school there 5 years ago. The demographics, and therefore the recruitment statistics, change from year to year. One house may take freshmen and sophomores only one year, and juniors and 4th year seniors the next.
