Bush Women Come out for Liberal Causes!

Barbara Bush for health care for all and even reportedly said she was glad that the health care bill dubbed "Obamacare" passed.

Quote:

"Why do, basically, people with money have good health care and why do people who live on lower salaries not have good health care?" she said. "Health should be a right for everyone." She is president of the Global Health Corps, an organization that champions global health equity.
No Republican in Congress voted for Obama's health care legislation.
Barbara Bush's comments come just weeks after her mother, former First Lady Laura Bush, professed views that departed sharply from the Republican majority opinion. During a Fox News interview, Laura Bush was asked to comment on Elena Kagan's nomination to the Supreme Court.

"I think it's great," she responded. "I'm really glad that there will be three [women] if she's confirmed. I like to have women on the Supreme Court." And in an interview with CNN's Larry King last month, she came out in favor of abortion rights and gay marriage.

I'm a liberal rebuplican, and I love my Theta sisters for speaking their minds!

I have a lot of respect for both of them. I know it's really hard to stay in the background and not let your own views eclipse your family members' views when they are in the spotlight, but both now have the opportunity to speak out. I'm glad they are using this opportunity to talk about such important topics!

Cindy McCain (another Theta) has been doing the same. Her views on same sex marraige vastly differ from her husbands.

Being married to a Republican doesn't mean that you are one. Look at Maria Shriver and Arnold.

Right. Sometimes I think we forget these women and family members are actual people and think of them as props for a candidate to gain political capital.

Might I also point out that having one or two views that are considered liberal does not make either Bush a Democrat. Just because we have a movement to roust all of the RINOs from the party doesn't mean that there aren't a large number of Republicans and Democrats who don't follow the party line all the way. They may align with the Republican party in every way but these issues.

Wasn't Laura Bush a registered Democrat until she married her husband?

I sometimes forget that people don't always register for political parties that reflect their own political leanings. Where I grew up, it's more advantageous to register as a Republican so you can vote in the primaries. Here in NYC, it's probably more expedient to register as a Democrat since there is rarely a Republican primary. I guess it also helps when you're marrying into a Republican dynasty, LOL.

It's also worth remembering that the major components of the health care bill were originally Republican proposals.
