The Karate Kid

cute movie. Doesn't seem as long as it is at times. Now if we can just get Jaden to get rid of the cornrows.

Did you spend a lot of time comparing the new film to the original?

So Jaden is 12, and looks 10. Ralph Macchio was in his early twenties, turning 16 on-screen. I guess to watch it, I'd have to get the original out of my head.

So my burning question - does Jaden have the acting chops?

I can live with him wearing them since he's still a baby...now, if we could just get Snoop and Charlie Wilson's old behinds to get rid of the cornrows...

With regard to the movie, I don't know if I'll see it, or maybe I'll wait until it hits redbox. I don't agree with them remaking Karate Kid..or Nightmare on Elm St. I think the kids should watch the originals!

All things considered, age and the likes, hes a pretty good actor. You can tell his parents are teaching him to take things seriously.

I try not to compare remakes with originals at all costs. If you treat it as its own movie you will more than likely be entertained.

saw it sunday-wasn't a big fan of the first movie, thought it was just ok. think the same thing of this version. the scenery was spectacular, however, and well worth the price of the movie.

jaden's acting is adequate.

They need to teach him how to take his appearance seriously. Because I can't tell with those cornrows.

There's nothing wrong with cornrows at his age. I mean hell, he makes more money than probably everyone who's posted, he can do what he wants as far as I'm concerned.

Exactly. I mean sheesh, he's a kid.

Saw this last week, and I enjoyed it. Jaden is Will Smith Jr. in terms of acting style, but hopefully as he gets older he will come into himself a little more and step out of daddy's shadow. It was clear that he took the role really seriously though, which I appreciated.

I didn't really spend a lot of time comparing it to the old one, because there was enough that made it different, certain conflicts and subtexts were more apparent, and kept it interesting on it's own merit. Interestingly, seeing this film actually made me think about the original differently--and I think that means something.

And I like his cornrows. As Sen said: he's a kid, he's doing his thing, and he can do what he wants (and what his parents will allow ;)) with his hair.
