What is the weirdest, disgusting, etc food you ever ate?
I will go first. :)
The most disgusting I would say is a mealworm. I ate it on a dare BUT surprisingly; it does not taste "disgusting." It tasted like I was chewing on wet cardboard. Don't ask me how I know what wet cardboard tastes like. lol I have no idea. lol But it was the impression that I got. Some other weird things I've eaten is microwaved mayonnaise sandwich. lol But that was when I was desperate to eat and there was absolutely nothing to eat. Also, I sometimes like to eat hard-boiled eggs and ketchup all mashed up together. But I rarely eat that "food" anymore lol. |
We actually had a thread on this before. You can go HERE and we talked about the weirdest/most exotic food we've eaten.

Ewwww gross. I'd have to say raw oysters. One time I was eating out with my friend, who eats raw oysters, but then again, he eats anything. It looked really good when he was eating them, because he just kept letting each one slide from the shell into his mouth, so I decided to give it a try. It was really slimy. It was so gross. I gagged and almost puked. Then he goes, put some hot sauce on it. I tried that, then I tried to chew it but, I just couldn't, it was that gross. And anything with mayonnaise on it is dusgusting, to me. |
Eel.
I love sushi, so I decided to try eel sushi one time. It wasn't gross, but it felt like the eel was just happily swimming around my mouth the whole time. It was a weird feeling, but I'd eat it again. :) |
Crunchy Salmon Sushi. Never again
|
Sushi is amazing. All of it. Every piece you all don't eat leaves more for me :D

I went through a very interesting food phase when I was 7 and my weirdest combo to date was Fruit and Cream oatmeal with chocolate milk and sardines. Go ahead. Be disgusted.
It was actually pretty good. |
I've eaten some things that other people would think are weird but I like. I've eaten reindeer before, and it's gooood! It's like very tender beef.
I've also had lutefisk on numerous occasions. It's a Norwegian thing - cod that is preserved in lye then reconstituted by being boiled. It's milky white colored and has a consistency close to scrambled eggs. Oh, and it's DELICIOUS! |
I hate beets.

Meanwhile, as I have mentioned before I do love me some haggis. |

However, I just had to Google what haggis was and OMG.. no flippin way. NO!!!!!! Squid, in the form of calamari is probably the most adventurous I've been. My list of foods I find disgusting is very, very long though, including beets, lima beans, liver, eggplant, and *almost* every other vegetable known to man. |
Eel maybe? Is escargot weird? How 'bout pho full of mystery meat?
I think some of the weirdest, most bizarre foods I've come in contact with were named perfectly normal things at Chinese buffets, e.g., "chicken" which I can see through when I hold it up to the light. Also, dim sum at a certain restaurant in the Asian District in OKC can be an adventure. Considering the fact that most of us omnivores are big fans of highly processed meats such as hot dogs, at least intellectually, I have a tough time judging any other culture for its bizarre cuts of meat. In the Philippines, I understand chicken anus is popular... but I can't judge--I've had McDonald's chicken mcnuggets. |

Sigh... when I was pregnant the first time... I had a craving for limestone or shale. Yes - rocks. Blame it on a mineral deficiency, or pica, or whatever. I was a geologist at the time, and anytime I was out in the field with a drill crew, and if the drill augers brought up perfectly clean limestone or shale fragments, into my mouth they went. I would just suck on them though, I knew better than to swallow. |
