There's an easier way to add the above after each of your posts. You can do that on the following page: http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/pr...=editsignature

Once your forum signature is set, when you post your next message scroll below the message editing area and make sure that the "Show your signature" option is checked. After that the option to show your signature should be checked automatically from that point on.

Confession: I copy some of the spam posts and use them when educating others about the interface between syntax, semantics and pragmatics. Some of those sentences follow syntactical rules yet make absolutely no sense whatsoever!!!

I've gotten some doozies off GC lately. Reminds me of attending the Opera in Beijing and watching the English translation on the screen above start out somewhat intelligible and then deteriorate into absolute gibberish and jargon. Kind of like someone opened a dictionary and just threw words at the screen; whatever stuck, stayed there.

^^^ i don't think i have ever read past the first few words so i never noticed that some sentences were technically correct; it's really ingenious to use these posts to do that. as for the lost in translation thing, i never knew how rampant it is until i landed this internship that requires me to transcribe/translate interviews in spanish into english. i have to ensure other people's work is correct since i conducted the interviews, and holy cow it amazes me some of the terrible literal translations that have come up.

^^^ no kidding! there are some websites that post mangled translations, photos of signs, etc. Of course I don't have any of them bookmarked, but periodically one of my friends will shoot me an email with some doozies.

I'll amuse myself sometimes by watching a DVD with both the Spanish dub AND the Spanish subtitles, which aren't always done by the same person/company. Sometimes if the line is an idiom like "When it rains, it pours", the actors will say "Nunca dos sin tres" (never two without three, which is what Spanish speakers say for this idiom) and the dub will put up "Cuando llueve se derrama" - which is literal.

yeah, i've caught that a few times, and unless i'm with people who are not native speakers, i just prefer to watch in spanish :o (gives me a chance to listen to it as well since there are not a lot of spanish speakers in my area, my biggest fear is losing the language)
