Trying to help better UMES
Hello
I currently attend the University of Md Eastern Shore as an upcoming senior in the Fall 2010 semester. First, i would like to apoligize if the thread i am posting have been posted or answered before but i am new to this site as of today so please bare with me. :-) I have been interested in pledging for Delta Sigma Theta sorority but since i have been attending UMES there has not been any sign of DTS or any other sorority besides AKA. Myself and a few other woman that are interested has seeked help from other greek members to help us with going about getting the DTS active at our campus. Weve signed petitions as well as spoke with our student activity director and the president of the university and they did not have a problem with the idea, actually they were very encouraging as well. We then tried to talk to a member of DST in the area but they did not approve of the chapter being active at UMES, but they did not have a reason at all to give any of us. We then tried to go to some of the different functions and everything at other schools but eventually everyone gave up on the idea. I havent given up, im still very much interested. So ive been doing more research and found out that that Nu Rho-DST was the chapter at UMES previously. I then contacted the Princess Anne alumnae from the DST website to give her an insight on the idea as well as request for more information or any suggestions she may have. Once she contacted me i must say i was very excited because she seemed very interested. Im taking it upon myself to also reach out for more opinions and suggestions so i joined greekchat.:) This has become more that just being a part of a movement or organization to me. Because we at UMES are trying so hard for DST to become active, this has became more important to me and a priority to do all that i can to make this idea successful for myself as well as the current students there, the ones to come, and also the community that is affected by everything that we do on the campus. So any ideas, suggestions, or comments are very much needed and appreciated. Thank you in advance:D |

Thank you all and also sorry for the errors made in the original post as well as the grammatical mistakes. I have also read the post from the link that you all posted. As helpful as that was, it still does not answer any of my questions. Sad to say that thread was posted in November 2008 and its now May 2010 and nothing about the GLO has been done on the particular university.

As a part of the SGA as well as the Student Activities board at my university,it is my job to try to make sure that the students of of UMES are satisfied. There has been times when the students have protested against the GLO and their events due to lack of concern of what the student body wants. So we as an association and university are doing are best to give the students what they want, or at least a reason to why we cannot make their demand. We have not been successful with any upcoming GLO, neither have we received a reason for why we cannot give the students what they want. I just want to help in any way that i can to make the UMES better as a whole and for the students.

ETA: I realized you're talking about a different thread -- not the one I directed you to in your other thread. |

And still, not your job. If the orgs aren't interested in having a chapter there, and your facebook* group posted a response from one in particular, then they're not interested. And the fact that you're looking at a particular chapter means it's NOT about your "SGA/Student activities board" It's all about you. No means no. *I'm just assuming it's yours, I'm probably right. im sorry mysticcat i wasn't referring to the link about GreekChat but to the link about the thread written about UMES and DST. I did read that link tho, im not asking questions that pertain to joining, if you read that in my post i apologize. Im asking for any suggestions as far as what one should do to start the process of DST becoming active at the university. But thanks anyway.

in this post i asked about one particular organization but for your knowledge we are working down a list of all the GLO. Therefore this is the one we are working on right now. We have already been successful in bringing 2 GLO back to the university with the last year that are very well active.
But thanks anyway drolefille |
