What helps you guys concentrate when you can't?

I have this important test Thursday. I am trying to study, but I can't. I can't concentrate, because I have a tons of thoughts in my mind going about 200 mph. Also, when I read I go 200 mph and I skip words, sentences, and even paragraphs, I just read randomly. In other words my mind is "wired". What helps you folks settle down, without falling asleep?

Curious, all that drinking and smoking is gonna catch up!

Try:
Ritalin, dexadrine, cylert, adderall, concerta, wellbutrin, caffiene, cocaine, crack, speed, meth, rock, advil, ice, or huffing. :D

Umm, I'm looking for a more drug-free approach.

If the other things running through your mind are stuff you need to do, get, places to go, etc. write them all down, free up that brain space. I can only study in short periods of time, so I study for a little while, then take a break, then study again. Sometimes it helps me to take notes on what I'm reading (even if I don't really need to), keeps me awake and on track. When I have a lot to read sometimes I highlight the page numbers so I don't keep reading the same pages. Good luck, I'm SO tired of tests!

Make yourself a to-do schedule. Take a day and plan out roughly each hour. It will help yuo stick your schedule. Plan out how many pages you want to read by 5 Pm that day and such. And like Heather advised, if you can't concentrate because of other things you feel you need to do, writing them down will release a lot of pressure in your head.

But if you do smoke or drink a lot, refrain from doing so...caffeine and nicotine can make you..for lack of a better word...loopy and frazzled.

Maybe you need a mind set shift.... Think about what you are studying. Why you want to study it and how much more knowledgable(sp?) and confident you will feel one you absorb that material. I often think of how blessed I am to receive the opportunity of high education. Thinking of your studies in this manner will make it less of a burden.

Good luck!

I just think about sex. Focuses my mind wonderfully, fills me full of energy and makes studying less boring . . . But that's only me:).

Alcohol. Pure and simple.

Of course, I am totally kidding!! This may sound cheezy, but when I'm studying(like I'm supposed to be doing right now) I put on mellow music like DMB, Enya, etc. That way I can kind of tune it out, but still calms me down.

I do like to drink the occassional high-ball while studying. I particularly did this back in high school. Many people find that smoking is a calming thing to do, of course I wouldn't quite recommend anyone to start simply for school. That's the type of thing you should be peer-pressured into, and doing becuase you think it makes you look cool.

Well, if you actually have sex, wouldn't you be nice and focused afterwards?
