Google's New Policy on Cougars
The New York Times posted an article yesterday that states that Google has implemented a new policy on Cougar sites. Recently, Google has deemed that the dating websites that it has supported in the past are "non family safe" and will not allow sites containing the word "Cougar" on their content pages. Ironically, they still support similar sites that match older men with younger women. You can find the article from the NY Times at http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/16/fashion/16cougar.html.
I am curious to hear what the dating community thinks about this decision. In case anyone is not familiar with the term, a Cougar is a slang word that refers to a woman who is interested in dating a younger man. Are Cougars bad? |
I guess I'd want to know more about why, specifically, they picked cougars to eliminate. I just googled the word cougars and still got those ads. However, I could see someone being upset, when their 10 year old was doing a report on a mammal did a Google search and a bunch of dating sites came up instead. Personally, I hate the term anyway.

It's kind of ridiculous that there even is a term "cougar" to begin with when the term for men is just...men. Sugar daddy is as close as it comes but that's fairly archaic. At any rate, if they want to eliminate one dating site, they should eliminate them all.

I don't care too much for "Cougars" and would be more satisfied if someone could shut down Ashley Madison. |

It's weird how the biological versus society's way of thinking works. I mean naturally guys hit a sexual peak really early on 18-22 years old and from there they continue, but women hit it in their mid 30's. So wouldn't this make sense that there should be more of this type of relationship around? Or am I missing the point?

And socially our society has been set up in a way that encourages the opposite, the guy's older because he's been the provider and the woman's younger and the innocent. So you're not wrong, there are just other things going on too. And 'cougar' is the new 'it' word. Well, it's not that new anymore but still. |
Is it wrong? The age gap being so wide? Doesn't hobbies, interests, thought, experiences be different? Of course putting aside the sexual part, would they have nothing else to talk about? (I'm in this situation btw, among other flaws) :o

I sense that you're looking for some sort of universal rule here to tell you whether to stay or go in your relationship, or what to do in general, and though there's plenty of guidance out there from friends, professionals and random internet peeps alike, you're best to judge your relationship on its own merits. Do you have things to talk about with your partner? If yes, then you answered your own question ;) |
Older women with younger men.
Older men with younger women. Who cares as long as they are of legal age? I do think it's a shame that there's a double standard where men can find a younger woman, but women who do so often get clowned. |

Apparently it is an issue in some places like Google's new policy. I don't know if its a way of controlling human's way of thought or whatever, but I do sometimes believe, people have a hard time changing old traditions. People are scared and so they act upon that.

Stamina does not = peak. Just because you can bang someone 10 times a day doesn't mean you know what you're doing. As far as women are concerned, this is total bullshit - many women were so uptight when they got married it took them forever to loosen up and admit they had sexual desires. That isn't the case in this day and age. |
