Who Received a Bid After Going Through Recruitment More Than Once?

Just curious. I received a bid to my favorite house after my third time going through the process.

Who else is in the same boat? Would you mind sharing your experience?

Thanks! :)

I have a question.

Did you get a bid after going through formal 3 times? Or did you do informal at some point too?

My friend went through formal twice, unsuccessfully and then got a bid to a colony.

My other friend went through formal twice, transferred, went through formal again and received a bid.

I went through formal rush twice, but never accepted a bid. The first time I had to drop because of an injury. Then I raised my grades big time and went through the process again a year later. The second time I was asked back to Preference Night by two houses that I couldn't ever see myself in, and I dropped.

I know that many say that you shouldn't drop out of recruitment, but I just felt I didn't fit in with the houses I was invited to. There wasn't anything wrong with either house, I just didn't see myself in them.

I always knew that Tri Delta was the sorority for me, and I was so happy to hear that they were doing Informal. When I was at the Tri Delta house I always felt relaxed and the girls were ones I had the most in common with. I know I made the right decision - I absolutely love everything ∆∆∆!

I went through recruitment at school A, then transferred to school B where I received a bid.

I can add a girl who went through received a bid, declined, went through again and accepted a different bid and initiated.

Twins went through, received a bid to the same house, depledged, went through again and received the same bids to another house and accepted and initiated.

Technically I went through twice, but the first time I dropped after pref night and transferred schools. I already had my deposit down at the second school and realized it wasn't fair to me or the sorority if I joined at my first school.

I like this thread. I'm going to start a similar one for NPHC.

If that happened, your experiences are very atypical. I'm hoping no one reads this thread and gains a false sense of hope from it.

Indeed.

I think everyone who posted in this needs to also post:

-the amount of women who go through rush
-the percentage of people involved in Greek life at the school
-the average size of the chapters

THIS.

I could never see this situation happening at an SEC school, Big XII, USC, IU or most other Big 10 schools -including my own. And those schools are just the tip of the iceberg. A PNM would be extremely lucky to get a bid after a second attempt at recruitment. A third-time PNM receiving a bid would be almost unheard of.

My best friend went through with me during Fall 2007, recieved a bid, turned it down. She went through the next year (Fall 2008) and recieved a bid from her first choice.

BUT...

She literally changed everything about her recruitment the second time around. She made great grades, added tons of activities to her resume, kept her repuation clean, made good friends with sisters in all of the sororities and dressed more "sorority-friendly" (she's very much so a hippie at heart, so she wore clothes were less on the extreme side of that style the second time).

Also our school is not competitive at all for those that maximize their options and each sorority typical offers bid to upperclassmen. With that said, I've seen many many girls that go through multiple times and recieve no bids. I think her situation was the perfect storm and if she didn't make all the changes she did, she wouldn't have had a chance. Even at a non-competitive school.

Technically, I went through 3 times and received a bid. I got a bid the first time but things didn't work out. I rushed a second time and dropped out early on. Then I rushed as a Junior, got a bid and initiated.

This was all at a fairly competitive school with 18 sororities almost all of which were at total of around 135. I couldn't say how many girls went through rush but the number would be high.

I fully realize that my situation was unique and I was lucky with my outcome.
