Al Gore's New House

Wonder how much of a carbon footprint this one will have? Typical case of "do as I say not as I do".

Not necessarily. We don't know enough about the house or their plans for it-maybe it is an ecologically efficient home that incorporates green practices, or they are intending to make it so.

Unless about 150 folks are going to live in that house, I don't care what green policies they pursue.

Right. The house is not new and everyone knows that "the greenest house is one that's already been constructed." I don't see too much of a big deal about this one--and I'm a LEED-accredited architect. :) As long as he's not tearing down two historic homes to build a McMansion, I don't really care.

I will say, however, that GWB's home in Crawford is state-of-the-art in terms of the green technology it uses. Very impressive.

Why is this newsworthy?

You know what houses are made out of, right? And who has to put them together? And what those machines run on?

Cringe.

thank you. maybe it's just me (prolly not), but while i do understand wanting a nice house if you can afford it, i don't get having MANY more rooms than there are people.

"Malthus,", says [former] Vice President Al Gore in Earth in the Balance, "was right in predicting that the population would grow geometrically." Al, as the father of four children, should know.

Haha, his house in Tennessee is very near mine. It's quite large and nice, but I understand wanting to live in CA.

Because he is a hypocrite, maybe. Some of us get tired of the ruling inteligencia telling us what to do, when to do it and how to do it but not doing so themselves. If one is going to talk the talk shouldn't he walk the walk.

Wonder how close to the ocean he is? If the oceans rise like Gore has said won't a house too close get washed away?

And he recently made it larger...

Of course, I don't know how much room he has to have for his secret service detail, etc.

SAME! I have never understood that. WTF DO YOU DO WITH ALL THOSE ROOMS??

My best friend's family just decided to move. Their house was nice; 3 bed, 3 bath...perfect size for a family a four. However, they DID take in a friend of one of the daughters...her dad passed away when she was young, and her mom recently had serious medical problems, which put her in a nursing home. The friend's family had to sell their house (her two older brothers were already moved out and married, the daughter, who is graduating from college this year, was still living there with the mom)...so yes, I can see an extra room would have been nice.

They moved to a 6 bedroom, 6 bathroom HUGE (and gorgeous) house! Don't get me wrong, it's absolutely beautiful, and if they can afford it, why not, I guess...But my best friend and her friend who moved in with them are graduating this year, so they'll be moving out fairly soon. The younger daughter is a freshmen in college, and knowing her she probably won't even move back after she graduates...so I'm just curious to know what it's going to be like for two people to live in that gigantic house.

I don't see where Al Gore was telling us what to do. He wanted a platform to inform the public. However, I also don't think I am the only one who pretty much ignored Gore's Earth rants.

I want to hear a politician or advocate announce the REAL solution to global warming because it doesn't involve driving a Prius or reusing shopping bags.
