Hello,
Hi everyone,
I'm transferring to a new school next semester ((I'll be in my 3rd year when I transfer)) and I am interested in rushing in the fall. I was wondering if anyone could tell me about rushing and just clear up some common misconceptions. Thanks, :) |

I'm not really sure about the "rushing" process. Is it brutal?? Then once you get a bid then what?? How can you decide if you get multiple bids? Then once you choose your sorority what happens?? How do you let them know who you've chosen? Then what happens?:confused::confused:

Keep in mind too that the process is obviously a little different at every school. Contact your school's Greek Life office - they should be pretty helpful!
Also: the process is never referred to as 'rushing'. It's recruitment. Always recruitment. |

Also, schools with all-local Greek systems (which the OP may be at - she didn't specify) do not usually use the term "recruitment." Nor do fraternities. |

Only formally. People use the term rush all of the time, this isn't something to be correcting posters about |

Seriously, though - I wonder how many of these girls entering college have never heard "rush" used on a consistent basis because it's been "recruitment" as long as they've been old enough to know what Greek life is. "Recruitment" (as opposed to Rush) is from around the year 2000, right? Which would have made the girls rushing now 8 years old when the switch was made. Ok, who else now feels old?:p |

"Rush" sounds so much more fun than "recruitment." I'm just sayin'. |

I was on campus a couple of weeks ago to talk to my advisor and I saw a giant sign that said 'RUSH' and had an arrow pointing where I could only assume Greek stuff was happening. :p I thought the whole rush thing was odd in April anyway, but I didn't know about continuous recruitment at time. Maybe that was the case.
In my emails asking about my university specifically and for recs, I use 'recruitment'. It seems a more proper word to use. |
