University of North Carolina Rush

I just got into UNC today!!! If I do decide to attend, I will be transferring in as a sophomore in fall 2010! I am really excited, but I am also nervous about going into UNC and trying to make new friends and meeting new people, because I know no one that goes there. That being said, I really want to go through rush, but I am nervous about rushing at UNC as a sophomore. I just wanted to see if anyone had any personal experiences or know of anyone who has been through rush at UNC or is in the greek system currently and knows if it is a competitive rush. Are recs necessary? Do sophomores get harsh cuts? Any advice at all from anyone who knows about UNC rush? Thank you so much for your time and help! Anything is appreciated!

i can't tell you about UNC other than to say that there are several threads in recruitment about UNC recruitment.

i can tell you not to worry about not knowing anyone at UNC-my daughter did not know anyone at her chosen college, which is 12 hours from home. she met people thru facebook and then in person at her orientation. it will work out for you.

and congratulations!!! you are going to a great school!

I would get recs at UNC, especially since you'll be a sophomore transfer. You need to be known. I hope you don't have your heart set on any specific sororities, as your username might suggest.

Or it could just be her house number. :) There are multiple sororities founded in 1898.

And all of them are located at UNC? I think not.

Is this Chapel Hill or one of the other UNCs with Greek Life?

There are only 2 NPCs founded in 1898, and yes, they both have a chapter at UNC. Tri Sigma and ZTA.

I just thought it was an interesting number to have on her username, because if 1/8/98 is her birthday, she'd be in 7th grade. Coincidence? Perhaps. But I don't think it's bad advice to warn against having your heart set on certain sororities.

That's why I don't think it has anything to do w/ her preference of sorority - usually girls in that mindset make their username something like "SailboatSweetie" or the like.

Callie1898 I just saw your post, and I totally am wondering the same thing! I'll be a sophomore transfer as well and I am thinking of rushing too but I am a little unsure! Congrats on getting in!

Good luck with rush! Don't put pressure about it being competative or not getting the one you really want. I met several girls who were legacys that didn't get a bid from those sororities because they didn't mesh well. You might hit it off with one and that is what it is about, you fitting in! There is always a girl who is 1st in her family and it isn't like she is only able to join the least popular, be yourself and everyone can like you and be your sister!

Did you go to UNC? If not, this really isn't very good advice.

Could this be the type of comment that Carnation was talking about?

I am sure mary is trying to be helpful, but it is very hard to understand what it is she is trying to get across to the OP, and if it has validity at IU.

violetpretty 04-25-2010 02:39 PM

And like I said, when someone gives off-base advice, there's always someone to point it out. I don't get why this is a problem.
