Party Favors

I was at a friend's house recently and she had the most beautiful crystal pitcher with pansy shapes cut into it that she used to serve iced tea. The matching stir stick had a pansy on the handle. When I asked her about it, she said she was a Kappa Alpha Theta and even though she hasn't been involved in decades, she kept that party favor as a reminder of the nice times she had in college.

I found that idea to be simply lovely, especially compared to all the party favors I've thrown away over the years. (tshirts, mugs shaped like boots, plastic picture frames, etc.)

Any Kappas have ideas for some classy, classic, maybe even subtle party favors? I'd especially like to hear what the alums wish they had now as a reminder of their collegehood days...

This isn't exactly the same genre, but the graduating seniors from my class got a very nice gift from our local AA. One of them alumnae hand painted a tile for each of us with an iris and "Eta Mu" on it. It was such a nice gesture and more of a "grown-up" gift.

We've gotten some nice glassware. That's probably my favorite. My freshman year we got really pretty champagne flutes with the crest and "Spring Formal 2007" printed on them in blue ink. I had two (mine and my date's) but now I'm sadly down to just one, since a friend broke one by accident.

I think that's the only glassware we've done, though, because our advisors are really iffy about us getting anything alcohol-related as a Kappa favor. I understand the reasoning, but I don't see anything wrong with a classy set of champagne flutes.

We did bud vases one year for our Mother's weekend. I really liked those.

This may sound weird, but my senior year we got new dinnerware at the kappa house, and we were allowed to purchase the old plates (that are bone colored with a blue crest in the middle and blue edging). I still have that plate today, propped up in a bookshelf. It looks decorative even if you don't know it's our crest and sentimental to me.
So, that leads me to think that a decorative tile, or plate, or trivet, or even a jewelry tray for a dresser with the crest would be a good favor.

These are great ideas. I wanted to add dark&light blue beach towels and classy fleur-de-lys candle holders as some ideas, or even flannel owl-print co-ed jammy pants/boxers.

I'm one of those people who wishes groups didn't put things like "kappa kappa gamma formal 2010" on items. I'd rather have a classic item that I myself will remember came from that event. Besides, it's cheaper if you don't have to engrave or print something!

Ooh! That reminds me! One of my FAVORITE house party favors was a pair of scrub/pj pants with 'Kappa Country Club" screenprinted on them. Nice to not have yet another t-shirt and I still wear them, even 10+ years later!
