Ideas For New Member Activites!!

Hello All! I am the New Member Educator in my chapter and I am looking for ideas for bonding activities that can be used during new member quarter/ semester! Just looking for something different than two truths and a lie!

I thought a scavenger hunt might be fun, but i've heard that it is considered hazing?

As long as you have an active or two participate in each team for a scavenger hunt, it shouldn't be hazing.

False. Scavenger hunts or ANYTHING like them are prohibited. Look in the bylaws. This goes for initiated members or active members.

To the OP---Our chatper does a ropes course a couple weeks before initiation or right after. Its a great bonding exercise, literally putting yourself in your sisters hands.
We also do an activity where its kind of like bingo. In each box though there are little things like "Find someone with a twiN" "find someone who was born in another state" "find someone who can name the four founders".

I apologize, I guess quite a bit has changed since I was an active.

Hayrides are out too :D. That was always the joke when I was an undergrad. But back to the topic... how about a movie night at the house (or any other place that can accommodate your group)? Or how about a makeup party, pool party, or a some sort of small community service project? Those are all good ways for the girls to get to know each other. Good luck with your new members!

Sorry if that came out as harsh. Its just when things get said like that it turns into 'Oh well at there chapter they do this and never get in trouble'. A fraternity got kicked off our campus for a scavenger hunt.

My chapter prepared a meal together. The bigs and littles went out and bought (with chapter money) food for different courses for a meal. We only had 5 new members at the time, so it worked out well.

One big/little pairing bought ingredients for hors 'doeuvres, another bought stuff for a salad, another had appetizers, another had the main course, and the last big/little pairing was in charge of dessert.

After shopping, each big/little had a one or two sisters join them, and the entire chapter participated in making a meal that they all got to sit down and enjoy together :)

my chapter is obsessed with play "i love my tri delt sis who..." where you stand in the circle with one girl in the middle who says "i love my tri delt sis who... has brown hair" or whatever and those girls that fit the description have to run to a different spot in the circle. last one in has to be in the middle. tons of fun. we play it on bid night, retreats, recruitment practice... i love it!

Sorority Trivial Pursuit

We played the game a few times, you come up with questions in 6 categories (sorority history, symbolism, actives, fun facts etc etc.)

Im a bit confused , are the people that fit the description switching spots with someone ?
are there squares on the floor that they have to stand on so one person who doesnt get a square is in the middle ?

^We played a similar game to "I love my Tri Delta sis" at the camp I worked at this summer. We used one of our shoes to mark our original place in the circle, but squares on the floor would probably work too.

And yup, it's people matching the original statement that switch places. It doesn't have to be a physical description, i.e. has brown hair, but could be a personality description, such as "is from New York" or "is their first time at camp." (But obviously as applicable to the sorority.)
