Texas/Texas A&M Rush

I've made up my mind and plan on rushing in the fall! I've been on many Greek websites for both schools and something that has worried me is the lack of minorities. As a minority, this sticks out like a sore thumb for me- none of the Panhellenic Sororities have any girls that aren't white! Could someone provide insight on this? Is it pretty much impossible to get a bid if you aren't white?

This is complete speculation as I am in no way an expert on either school.

The reason there could be a lack of minorities is that women of a minority simply aren't rushing NPC sororities. At my school we also have very strong NPHC groups and a up and coming multi cultural sorority. The fact is that most women that aren't white choose to pursue a different Greek route than the NPC. We do have minorities rush and they normally do really well (just as equal oppurtunity as white women). Although I do find it hard to believe thatat least one sorority at those campuses don't have a single woman who is not white.

It is VERY true at some schools.

Yikes I didn't mean every (hey its late) I meant not one. Is it still likely that every chapter has all white members? I understand we are in the South (so am I) but of the thousand or so girls that are greek at these schools, not one of them is not white??

This is not true. While not huge in number, there are non-whites in several chapters at Texas. Not all of them, but a decent number of them. It's not like it's Ole Miss or Bama.

I'm not sure about A&M, but you really don't want to go there, do you? :D

I'm not white and am a member of an NPC organization. So no, it's not impossible to get a bid if you're not white.

The topic is not whether or not there are non-white members in NPC sororities. The topic is whether or not there are non-white members at these specific schools. Sad to say that even in 2010, there are still some schools and/or specific chapters where it isn't possible to receive a bid to an NPC organization if you aren't white.

You're new here. It's probably best that you read up on some topics before dispensing blanket advice on topics you're not 100% informed about.

Point taken. I may have read it wrong the first time.

I know for a fact that in my chapter at A&M we have at least three or four girls who are not white, and I'm fairly sure the situation is similar for most of the chapters. I know there are very few black members of NPC groups, though, because the NPHC groups on campus seem to be very popular.
