Excerpt from article in the Indiana Daily Student:

Alpha Tau Omega fraternity announced Monday it will drastically reduce the number of members in its Delta Alpha chapter at IU, in the wake of allegations of hazing and other problems . . . .

“In addition to hazing, there were other issues: low grade point averages, a lack of willingness to admit that the chapter was not in a good place based on actions of members and, in some cases, a general attitude that if Delta Alpha was not ‘party central,’ what was the point?” said Wynn Smiley, chief executive officer of the national fraternity, in a video statement on the fraternity’s Web site. “‘After all,’ one (member) commented, ‘ATO is not really about anything other than to facilitate alcohol-fueled parties.’”

. . . Smiley said about 20 members have been asked to stay on as ATO brothers, pending appeals. . . .

Edited to add:

Station WTHR reports on its site:

. . .The national headquarters of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity says it is allowing fewer than 20 of 126 active members to remain in IU's century-old chapter. Some can appeal their expulsions.

The fraternity was already on alcohol violation probation when university officials asked that the national office investigate the chapter.
