Sophomore Rushing UT

Hi everyone, I'm currently a freshman at UT, and I've been thinking for a while about whether or not I should try to rush a Panhellenic sorority next fall. Before going to UT, I didn't really know or understand anything about the greek system at UT, or anywhere really (I don't have family members who are greek.)
After a semester though, I've seen and learned about about greek life, and met enough sorority girls to really want to be a part of this tradition (the bonding, lifelong friendships, connections, etc.) Now I just regret not rushing last fall.
I have good grades and am involved in student government, but I don't really now that many greeks who could help me with recruitment. Oh, and also I'm Asian.
I was wondering if I should try to rush as an sophomore next year or not. I know that UT rush is really hard, especially for non-freshman girls, so I'm not sure if should spend the time and money to try. I know there are a lot of things working against me (sophomore, don't know many people in greek life, being Asian??), so please, just tell me the truth :)
Thanks!

Rushing as a Soph at UT

This is a common question.

Read this thread and the links in it.

I honestly dont know the UT system even though I have friends there but it never hurts to try. Its a good experience no matter what the outcome. Dont know if that helps but thats my thought.

Although the OP on this other thread is re-rushing, I think it gives a better perspective on sophomore rush at Texas: http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...d.php?t=106781

Just because a few rules may have changed, most people that I know are not expecting recruitment results to change very much. The sororities that historically do not take anything but Freshmen will continue to do so. The chapters that were historically a little more open minded when it came to class year will most likely take advantage of non-freshman freebies and use those places normally used for non-freshmen to give more freshman bids out.

PLEASE DO NOT COUNT ON GETTING A BID JUST BECAUSE THERE MAY BE CHANGES IN QUOTA ADDITIONS! PLAN FOR TEXAS RECRUITMENT TO BE JUST AS BRUTALLY COMPETITIVE AS EVER!

I was wondering when you were going to show up.

It's spring break, they're getting in gear for when summer comes.

Then it's that time of year again.

Are they allowed to do that? I thought with upperclassman quotas/free stuff, it was take upperclassmen or don't take anyone.

I THINK she means that an open-minded group that would usually give say 5 bids to upperclassmen (out of the normal quota) will now just fill the normal quota with Freshman and use the upperclass quota for the sophmores that they would normally take
(numbers are entirely made up)
so before:
50 total bids
45 freshman
5 soph

now:
50 bids + 5 upperclass bids
50 freshman
5 soph

At least this is the way I see it.

Unless I am wrong, sophomores still count against quota at Texas?
Has Panhellenic changed in the last year?
