iPod owners, give me your reviews/advice!

If I had to do it all over again, I would have gotten a replacement Zune. My iPod doesn't play the radio and it is a pain to scroll through the music when I know which song I want to hear.

I have an iPod mini right now, but I've used pretty much all of the different types.
I prefer using my iPod for music only, so I don't need all the bells and whistles. If I were to get a new one, I'd get a classic with a lot of storage. The only problem with this one is lack of accessories. Touch is pretty good -- basically, an iPhone that doesn't make calls. I can't remember if any of them have FM tuners. |
No iPods have FM tuners that I know of. However, for about $50 you can buy an add-on FM tuner. I bought one and wound up never using it, so I returned it and can't speak for how well they work. But as Senusret said, the Zune does have FM radio built in. It's one of the (few) things the Zune has over the iPod, IMHO.
When I was looking at iPods & Zunes, I went with the iPod primarily on color :D I had an older iPod but didn't use it much because it was such a beast, so I was kind of starting fresh. At the time, the Zune had just been released & came in ghastly colors that just didn't do it for me. So I went with a red iPod Nano and am quite happy with it. I've had an iPhone for more than 6 months and have yet to transfer a single song on it, but I'm sure I will eventually. I should note I like the Nano for pure size & portability, mine doesn't have video or anything else. Another option is to check out refurbished iPods, sold through Apple. They fix up the insides as needed and put a new faceplate on it so you'll never know the difference. We bought 2 refurbished classic iPods for my brother-in-law & sister-in-law in Brazil as wedding presents (they're like $1000 in Brazil!) and a refurbished shuffle for each groomsmen in our wedding. It's a great way to get more with less. ETA: If you do go the iPod route, be sure to get any case you want now instead of later. Every time they change versions, they alter the look & feel ever so slightly, which means they make new cases, which means you can't find the cases that fit yours anymore. |
iPod Touch is great for music. I had one since they first hit the scene and when I got my iPhone I gave it to my s/o. Now theyhave the 32Gb versions out so you should be ok. Right now it's still ranked as one of the best PMPs out. Not to mention, if you want radio and have a great wifi connect, there are tons of apps from Pandora to Last.fm you can use.

I have the Touch (1st generation-a little jealous of the improvements they've made since then) and LOVE IT. I was going to make the point that there are a zillion radio aps you can DL, but Daemon beat me to it.

I have an 8GB iPod touch and a 160GB Classic. I love them both, but I like the Classic better. They don't have a radio, and if they do, I haven't found it yet...:p but I like my touch too, because it allows internet access, plus I like using it for Pandora. They both allow videos too. I love my iPods. You really should get one. I would suggest the 160GB Classic.
Just use your MP3 player for the radio and your iPod for the other things you enjoy doing with them. |
