THON 2010

Since 1972, the Penn State IFC/Panhellenic THON has raised nearly $70,000,000 for children with cancer. From researching cures for cancer to paying for the care of children to helping the families deal with cancer, THON has meant so much to Penn State and has spawned so many other THONs around the country. And, this is ran by the students and the students alone! Greek spawned and led, all students involved.

Who won THON? I just hope it wasn't the ones who were stupid enough to stand in front of my car when there was a green light - they came very close to needing those funds for surgery!

You beat me to it this year! Great news!

Please don't think I'm hating on THON - I just really have a problem with people running out into traffic for money. I've refused my own chapter!

WOOHOOO!!! ZTA won again! Great job to all the students involved, especially the Zetas and ATO!

I said this on the other thread about this, but I do not blame you in the least. We are told specifically how to can, it is stated very clearly in the rule book that we are not to run out into traffic. Sometimes it is inevitable, but people do need to be more careful about it. I wouldn't want to think of anyone getting hurt.

I'm sure that the cluster@#$% that has been Pittsburgh snow removal/road maintenance this year hasn't helped either. It's hard to stand in a safe place when there's 3 feet of snow on it that no one's bothered to clear.

Way to go Penn State Greeks! :)

So true. For our last canning trip though (which was the weekend of Valentine's Day, you know, the one where we got 18 inches of snow and then another like 2 feet on top of it?) they required that we not stand on street corners for safety reasons. This meant that we had to find businesses that would allow us to stand outside of their stores (or at least on their property) to solicit money from their customers. Yeah, not an easy task. We were lucky and were able to find some, but I know a lot of people ended up either canceling or doing day trips, because the penalties for standing on the street were severe (ex: we lose dancers, floor passes, parts of our total, etc). It was intense.

I can only imagine what would have happened had they not threatened us, considering the snow plus the lack of snow removal plus people not being smart about not going into the streets. Insanity, much? Thankfully, another year has proven successful and is now finished. Whew.
