Extreme Makeover: Home Edition- foster parent edition

Sometime in March, one of the EM:HE episodes is going to feature a family in Kemah, Texas, who had been living with their large family in several trailers on their land since Hurricane Ike hit. The family is a mom, dad, their four biological children, and a bunch of children they have fostered and adopted- most of them special-needs kids who had been determined by the state to be "unadoptable." They are big Astros fans, and some of the Astros, along with actress Jessica Alba, were involved with the episode.

I just found out today that I actually know this family. When I worked for Children's Protective Services years ago in northeast Houston, this family had a few little girls from my caseload placed in their home. They amazed me because they were my age, but they were married, had their own older children, and had the energy and desire to foster. They were some of the most wonderful foster parents I have ever worked with to this day- and I knew them back in 1996.

I don't know what day in March the episode is airing, but I wanted to point it out to anyone who might be interested.

This episode airs tonight, for anyone who's interested.

A sad addendum... one of the children in the family died a few weeks ago, just before her 2nd birthday, due to medical problems. http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/hou...&pid=140822718

I have never been able to get through a single ep of this show without crying.

I always get so frustrated with this show. The idea is wonderful but they redid a house near Virginia Tech and it ended up being condemned because the construction was so faulty. The family was even in worse shape than they were before. Not to mention, many families end up not being able to pay the taxes on their beautiful new homes.
