What happens if I don't affiliate?
]I am wondering what would happen if I transfered schools to another school that has my chapter and decided it was just not for me. If I chose not to affiliate at my new school would I be dropped completely from my sorority?

I can understand why you might not want to talk to your chapter advisor or chapter sisters about this -- you may not be ready to share that you are transferring schools.
However, you have got to speak to somebody about this -- maybe call your national headquarters anonymously? GreekChat is a very general forum and every organization is sure to have differing policies about what to do. You don't want to get the wrong advice. Good luck! |
Hmmm, I've never heard of someone not wanting to affiliate. It's always been the opposite wanting to know if/when/how someone can affiliate.
You need to check your I/Natl policies. It may be that you will be considered an alumna. ETA: I didn't read your user name close enough. I'm sending you a pm. |

I was initiated at U of A and transferred to ASU. I didn't affiliate. I was put at alum status. You are a sister for life sweetie. If you don't want to join the chapter at your new school because it isn't for you, then it isn't for you. You've been initiated and unless you do something that could have them take your memberhsip away (which not affiliating isn't a reason), then you will still be a member. I'm kind of living proof of that! :D But... yes there is a but. I wish I had affiliated. I wish I could have had that collegiate experience. Yes, I love being an alum, but it is hard living in Phx and most of the alums are from Gamma Rho. I sometimes feel a bit left out because I didn't affiliate with Gamma Rho. I would truly encourage you to "try out" (for lack of better words) the new chapter you want to affiliate too. If it doesn't work out it doesn't work out. You'll always be our sister. :D Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions. |
The chapter at your new school may not even know that you're an ADPi unless you wear your letters or pin or tell someone. One of my daughters and several of my nieces transferred to UGa from their smaller schools and knew before they even went that they wouldn't be attempting to affiliate because they were all going into demanding majors. My daughter met several members of her sorority's chapter but never even went to the house. I don't think that the nieces ever met any of their sisters-they just kind of flew under their radar the whole 2 years.
They all still get their national magazines, though, as if they'd finished at their original schools. |

that part in the parentheses was sarcasm. |
Oh no I love my sorority and I would totally want to affiliate if they let me. I was just wondering what happened if my new chapter did not accept me.
Thanks for all of yalls help! |
