Fatwa Against Body Scanners
|
Well, I can see the reasoning, but one has to be at least somewhat suspicious of the motives of the folks issuing the Fatwa. Are they going to make human rights claims [EU] and Free Exercise claims [U.S.] to challenge the use of body scanners? I don't think such claims would fly very far in the U.S., but in the E.U., where access to the internet became a human right, it seems the sky's the limit with that sort of litigation.

Oh well, I guess they can refuse, get a pat down or not fly. It's their choice. There is such a false outrage over these scanners. I've been through them a couple times. No one but the operator can see the pictures. This is akin to being afraid of your doctor seeing you naked. Get over it. I've seen enough breasts (in person, not just on film) as a mammographer that seeing your's is like seeing a Barbie doll's. I don't really care!

Someone help me here, but wasn't there a problem in some state with drivers licenses and Muslim women not wanting their faces shown and instead insisting on being photographed in their burka? This would open the door for anyone to be traveling incognito with a burka over them. I can't remember where this was reported to have occurred.
As with driving, flying is a privilege and not a right. |
You're right. They also objected to taking off their scarves in banks. In the end, to do certain things, they have to follow the same rules as everyone else regardless of their religious beliefs. If your religion forbids it, then you just don't get to drive, fly or go to the bank. Sorry!

I personally would rather have a body scan and be done with it than have someone touching my body and potentially getting too close to certain areas. But that's just me! |
Interesting. Hmm I don't know the Qur' an ultra well so I can be wrong. But I believe that the rules of modesty only apply to unrelated people of other genders. So just have a line for women manned by a woman operator and the male operators running a line for men and you have no problem.
