best song lyrics
what are the best song lyrics you've come across? you know, stuff to be found on the soundtrack of your life...
we refuse to be what they wanted us to be we are what we are that's the way it's going to be. and we've been treading on the winepress (for too long) rebel. rebel. and we've been taken for granted (much too long) rebel. rebel. babylon system is the vampire. sucking the blood of the sufferer... bob marley do your best with the words-- it's always great (self-fulfilling?) when you find deep personal meaning in some lyrics and it turns out you got them wrong |
On my soundtrack is Vertical Horizon's Finding Me
the entire song resonates with me, but especially the chorus: Don't tell me How to be 'Cause I like some suffering Don't ask me What I need I'm just fine Here finding me Me |
"This is how it seems to me- that life is only therapy
Real expensive and no guarantee.. So I lie here on the couch, with my heart hanging out Frozen solid with fear, like a rock in the ground. But you move me- you give me courage I didn't know I had. You move me- now I can't go with you and stay where I am, so you move me. This is how love seemed to me- I could look and not see Going through the emotions, not knowing what they mean And it scared me so much, that I just wouldn't budge I might have stayed there forever, if not for your touch But you moved me... out of myself and into the fire You moved me... now I'm taking delight in every desire Cause you moved me.." -Garth Brooks, "You Move Me" And my personal, oh-so-SASSY anthem.... "Lock up your husbands, lock up your sons Lock up your whisky cabinets, girls, lock up your guns Lock up the beauty shop, there's no tellin if they've heard the news Call the boys downtown at Neiman Marcus, tell 'em lock up them high-heeled shoes Cause when God-fearin women get the blues There ain't no slap-dab-a-tellin' what they're gonna do Run around yellin... I got a Mustang, it'll do 80 You don't have to be my baby I stirred my last batch of gravy, you don't have to be my baby! Call all the deacons, call the Ladies Aid Call all the altos, sopranos, tenors, call every bass Call all the Pentacostals, and bring that anoiting oil too Call the preacher he's the only one can reach her and there ain't no time to lose Cause when God-fearin women get the blues...." -Martina McBride, "When God-Fearin Women get the Blues" |
not specific to me, but I've been listening to old war songs alot, mostly woodstock stuff...but it's an interesting take on the events back in Vietnam.
"I Feel Like I'm Fixin' To Die" and it's 1,2,3 What are we Fightin' For? Don't Ask Me I Don't Give A Damn Next Stop is Vietnam and it's 5,6,7 Open up the Pearly Gates Ain't No Time to Wonder Why Whoppee, We're All Gonna Die .... Come on Mothers Throughout the Land Pack Your Boys Off to Vietnam Come on Fathers Don't Hesitate Send Your Sons Off Before it's too Late Be the First One on Your Block To Have Your Boy Come Home in a Box |
great topic! :)
I Love song lyrics.. the main reason I love barenaked ladies so much is because of their lyrics..they just speak to me I guess..The following aren't really the soundtrack of my life..but just some of my favorite lyrics :)
"I don't tend to worry 'bout the things that other people say, and I'm learning that I wouldn't want it any other way.."-BNL, Life in a Nutshell "Once in awhile you get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right"-Grateful Dead, Scarlet Begonias "And we could do more outdoor things..if we weren't so busy..getting busy.." hehe :) -Promise Ring, Happiness is all the Rage "There is a road, no simple highway, between the dawn and the dark of night, and if you go, no one may follow..that path is for your steps alone"-Grateful Dead, Ripple "Mental Health is over rated"-BNL, This Is Where it Ends I'll post more later, (ya'll are gonna get sick of me after this thread..hehe)..those are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head |
"And we never failed to fail,
It was the easiest thing to do..." The Southern Cross Crosby, Stills and Nash (just think it's a funny line) |
An old punk band I used to love called Reset had an amazing song called concern. It goes like this:
___________________________ You're living in this country and you do not give a damn about the people that are voted and that rule this fucking land this concerns our country which means this concerns us all even though you're lazy you know what is right and wrong exercise the right that you've been given as a citizen isn't that your duty to democracy? you listen to the news you're a witness to abuse and in stead of helping out you just sit there where's your concern? ___________________________ Dave says "Oh, life it seems a struggle between What we see, what we do I'm not going to change my ways Just to please you or appease you" ___________________________ as well as "Could I have been anyone other than me" ___________________________ and lastly "Would you not like to be... Sitting on top of the world with Your legs hanging free?" |
I used to be really into Ani DiFranco (I know what you're thinking and I just like the music!) Anyway, she has TONS of amazing lyrics. Here's some of my favorites:
Life is a B movie, it's stupid and it's strange It's a directionless story and the dialogue is lame But in the he said, she said sometimes there's some poetry If you turn your back long enough and let it happen naturally I build each one of my days out of hope.. and I give that hope your name.. And I don't know you that well but it don't take much to tell Either you don't have the balls or you don't feel the same... |
Okay, so I'm at work and procrastinating studying, I thought of some more..heh :)
"Your actions speak so loud I can't hear a word you're saying"-Bad Religion, I want to Conquer the World "Forget regret, or life is yours to miss"-Rent, "You left the state without me, shows how much you care about me..I could call but you could hang up.." AND "My hearts on fire but my blood is frozen"- Juliana Hatfield, Little Pieces "Confusion has it's cost"- Crosby, Stills, & Nash, Helplessly Hoping "I want to be the one who walks in the sun"-Cyndi Lauper, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun "Don't let the past remind us of what we are not now"-Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Suite: Judy Blue Eyes "How do you leave the past behind when it keeps finding ways to get to your heart"-Rent, Okay, Really..I have to study now :) more later I'm sure b/c I'm a nerd/annoying like that.. -Kate |
"With all of our running/ and all of our cunning/if we couldn't laugh, we would all go insane...If we weren't all crazy/ we would go insane" - Jimmy Buffet, Changes in Lattitudes, Changes in Attitudes
"Sometimes people leave you /halfway through the wood/do not let it grieve you/no one leaves for good/no one is alone" - Into the Woods "Look at me/I'm a drama queen if that's your thing, baby" - Geri Halliwell, Look at Me |
Hmmm . . .
Music's sort of my "thing", so here's some favorites:
Well, I've strolled across some dance floors filled with girls all dressed in red, pulled my foot from my mouth and took back the things I said - Wandered through the valley of the shadow of the dead, Stumbled upon this old sundial, there these words I read: I only count the sunny hours, brightest hours of day - I never count the gloomy hours, I let them slip away . . . Then I realize I'm awake . . . -Long Beach Dub Allstars, "Sunny Hours" If I had a shotgun, know what I'd do? I'd point that shit straight at the sky, and shoot heaven on down for you - because the bar is always open, and the time is always right, and if God's good word goes unspoken, then the music goes all night . . . -Sublime, "Don't Push" You make up ridiculous words that mean exactly nothing - I know just what you mean, that's the funny thing . . . -311, "Sweet" Baby, you picked the wrong guy, if you think you're that fly . . . -Tupac Shakur, "I Get Around" F--- the first amendment, my speech was free the day my soul descended. -Jurassic 5 I've got an idea for a movie, and here's my pitch: I get a job and quit my band, and you'll stop being a bitch. -the Vandals I can't be too cool in a tree with my pants down . . . -blink182 |
"I would like to make love to you, you can make me scream"
-Phish " |
"I would like to make love to you, you can make me scream"
-Phish - Boogie on Women "Who's your daddy? I'm your daddy now!" -Guster - Airport Song |
"You and I should get away for a while. I just want to be alone in your smile. Buy some candy and cigarettes and we'll get in my car. We'll blast the stereo and we'll drive to Madagascar." - Blink 182
"I only count the sunny hours, brightest hours of day - I never count the gloomy hours, I let them slip away" - Long Beach Dub All Stars "In the bright of day, it might seem like stars are gone. They never leave, they come back when the sun moves on." - A New Found Glory "He steps outta the shade and says something like, 'You and me babe, how bout it?'" "Can't do the talk like they do on TV. And I can't do a love song like it's meant to be. I can't do everything, but I'd do anything for you. Can't do anything but be in love with you." - Dire Straits These are the ones I've thought of so far - there are a bunch more that pop into my head every once in a while. -Collin |
"Come as you are"--Nirvana
"Alcohol, a party time necessity"--Barenaked ladies "If you got bad breath than maybe try scope, and if you wash your ass you best use soap"--Beastie Boys "Who controls the past now, controls the future. Who controls the present now controls the past. Who controls the past now, controls the future, Who controls the present now?"--Rage Against the Machine That's all for now, b/c I've got a huge Chem lab assignment but perhaps I'll find some more. |
