MARDI GRAS 2010

Anybody going this year?

jennyj87 02-09-2010 01:33 PM

I'm planning on going to the universal studies one. Does that count? :)

I want to go wicked bad :(

Sounds like fun, but I was thinking about the New Orleans one.

One of these days, I'm really going to go to mardi gras. Not in 2010 though. :(

I might go down on Saturday to catch some parades. My daughter is a maid in our small town Krewe this yer so that cuts out our New Orleans time. Lot's of fun but no where near the scale of the big towns.

Not going, but Mardi Gras this year falls on my birthday .. my 21ST BIRTHDAY!! :D

And because I'm SO exciting .. I'm spending my 21st birthday running an ice cream sundae party/fundraiser for my campus Catholic ministry. The debauchery can wait til the weekend ;)

We are! Son is a Page for two courts and Daughter is an Attendant-to-the Queen for one plus our regular rides.

"Lombardi Gras" was yesterday, "Dat Tuesday", and was phenomenal. No wonder it is expected to sleet and snow on Friday.

It's fun but very crowded from what I remember. I was on Bourbon Street celebrating Mardi Gras back in 2000. From what I remember the lines where incredibly long. We had to go inside a Gentlemen's Club (had to pay cover) just to use the bathroom and have a seat. The street stunk because of all the urine and vomit. If you go off of Bourbon Street and/or into the French Quarter it's not as packed. Now having said all that, I still had the time of my life. So go for it! You only live once so get it out of your system while you're still an undergrad. Cheers!

Heading to the original Mardi Gras tomorrow...

I did DC Mardi Gras, which is a big deal for Louisiana to hob nob with our legislators, about a month ago. It was a lot of fun!

Happy Mardi Gras!

Queen of Carnival is a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma at UVA!

A major in Southern Studies? Wonder what the syllabis for that looks like?

AGDee 02-16-2010 07:11 PM

I can't help but think that the text book is The Southern Belle Primer: Why Princess Margaret Will Never be a Kappa Kappa Gamma. And obviously, she studied it well!

Ole Miss has a major in Southern Studies too. It's pretty intense and not one of those "easy" majors. I have met students who come from all over the country to major in Southern Studies. So I'm sure at UVA it is pretty intense too.
