Meet the Brothers
Hey All -
I'm the Head Recruitment Chairman for my chapter of Zeta Beta Tau at PSU. So we just started rush (yesterday), and tonight's event is "Meet the Fraternity" held in a ballroom, and i just wanted your guys' input on how i should run this. My Plan: *Have each of the present brothers go around and explain why they joined ZBT *Tell some stories about they initially thought about ZBT / fraternities in general *Give some brief background information about ZBT Nationally and a little about locally *Have the rushes tell us what they expect / think about a fraternity Input? Thanks! |
The event is tonight and you're just now trying to decide how to run it?
Yikes. |

Its a little late to be changing things, but the event is a little too formal for my taste. I tend to be of the "friends first - fraternity forever" school of thought, meaning you talk to the potentials about regular, non-fraternal things so that you actually get to know them as a person and visa-versa. By the time you talk to them about ZBT its not a question of whether or not they'll join because they're already friends with you. I'm not saying not to talk about the fraternity, but rather not to talk at your potentials about it. Answer their questions, but don't lecture them about things they don't yet understand. I would prefer a "Meet the Brothers" that went along the lines of "Kyle plays club baseball and likes thai food" rather than "Kyle joined Zeta Beta Tau because it is a shrine of international brotherhood!" |
I forgot to mention
last night I held a Meet the brothers event |
Gotcha. Makes more sense, but I still don't love it. Honestly though, changing your plans now is the best way to have an unsuccessful event.
