Any ideas??

I am new to this site, and am a Delta Zeta down in Evansville, Indiana. I was wondering if anyone had any good ideas for Formal ideas/themes as well as Greek week ideas, or somewhere I can look for good theme and tshirt ideas??
Any ideas would be much appreciated!! :)

I think there have been threads like this so a GC search may find some good stuff.

Is this your chapter's first time doing these? Do you know any sisters from other chapters or friends who are members of other GLOs from other schools?

Try looking at catalogs/online sites with prom stuff for the formal theme. As far as Greek week, the theme of that is usually determined by IFC and Panhellenic.

A few formal themes that we have had in the past couple of years were.. Famous Couples.. Barbie and Ken (Everyone dresses up as a different themed barbie..ie. beach barbie, birthday barbie, princess barbie..ect).. and DZ of America, where everyone dresses as different states. :)

Many times we let the location help set the theme for us. Examples the event space above the baseball stadium - diamonds are a girls best friend, or semi-formal in a mexican restaurant - dirty dancing havana nights. If your not so lucky to have it jump out at you (like having it in an hotel) go classic. We had Famous Couples as a mixer, not sure how it would go in formal dress (???) but I'm sure y'all pulled it off. Or my favorite just go look at shirt designs and find one your in love with and plan it around that!

For shirts try www.prographicssportswear.com, they do all of ours and they always look great, have tons of designs, super friendly, and cheap.

I feel so old. I remember when formal simply meant . . . formal.

I have never once in my life been to or heard of a "themed" formal before today.

A "themed formal" is just like the theme for a prom. It really only helps with decor, shirts/souvenirs (we all have seen the glass in our house from our parents prom with "Stairway to Heaven, Prom circa 1980" written on it), and sometimes food. I have never been to formal where the dress was themed, that was new to me.

**sorry if the date is not correct related to Stairway to Heaven, that was my mother's prom theme, not sure the date though.

We had a hard enough time with the guys having a suit handy (esp the non-Greek guys). I can't imagine if I would have invited a guy to a formal, and then said "oh by the way, you have to dress up as Idaho."

We had "themes" but like GeorgiaGPhiB said, the only point of them was to have something to put on the favors (glasses, squeeze bottles, t-shirts or boxers) other than "spring 1991 formal." And yes you have the Stairway To Heaven date correct, and probably it was in use for 10 years afterward. :) That was the prom theme that would not die just because 1) it's Led Zeppelin so guys don't think it's gay 2) it's super easy to make decorations.
